How are there so many fat kids playing ball? Meeks, Anya, Smith, & one other kid in that video were all carrying an extra 30+. I can only remember one kid playing high level ball who pulled that off when I was growing up.

I can only remember one kid playing high level ball who pulled that off when I was growing up. Conditioning is often viewed as "too harsh" for the kids these days. I'm still waiting for someone to show me why Anya is considered a prospect? What does he do? Meeks to UNC is going to be simple--get in shape and find out if he can play or he'll be out of there in a semester. I'm assuming he'll get in shape because Roy Williams isn't going to slow the UNC offense down. So he's got some hope--Anya is going to be a role player who will give fouls or transfer out due to thinking he's better then he is. Like what I've seen of Derrickson and his class and the one ahead of him seem to be the re-birth of DMV producing a lot of talent. Been a down cycle for a while.

Steve Smith isn't going to play guys who are injured--remember when DSR had reinjured or banged up his knee and wanted to play on the China trip Oak Hill took last Spring? He made him sit out and rest. Britt has done this since I've followed him-bad game equates to (insert injury). Did it at Gonzaga Prep, with Assault, At Camps (that Adidas Nations event was laughable how he mentioned he was hurt because he sucked)and is doing it now at Oak Hill. Yeah it sounded like some bs but..All the other things about his poor play though = truth. I think he’s averaging 5ppg on the season smh.. "Nate Britt, playing with a torn meniscus, struggled to score as Oak Hill suffered a stunning double-overtime defeat to Fairfax (Va.) Paul VI to snap the school's 56-game winning streak. Britt will miss at least a month of action as he'll rest up following arthroscopic surgery” and then this "Nate Britt, future UNC point guard, was playing with a torn meniscus as we learned after the game, but the Washington D.C.-area native couldn't bring himself to miss his return home for this intriguing matchup. Britt struggled shooting from the floor all game, failing to convert a field goal in regulation. But he did some nice things with the ball in his hands, setting up his teammates for several baskets to keep Oak Hill right there. " northcarolina.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1447072All of you guys were right--apparently he's going to sit out a while--which I find odd. UNC/Smith allowed Britt to play with a knee injury. Now I know the meniscus isn't the worst injury--but it's still significant and why would Britt do something as goofy as "trying to play at home"--and I'm old fashioned-if you suit up and play, no excuses--but of course we get the excuse after the loss. Ego is a detriment to all--and Steve Smith showed his as well in defeat. Wish Britt well on his recovery, but question why he'd play in first place and being allowed to play is really in question if it's that serious he has to sit.

Derrickson was MVP of the Bass Pro Shop. Really out shown Dakari last night and other Monteverde kid heading to Morgantown. He really stepped it up with the PVI big, Q, sitting on the bench due to injury suffered in semis after colliding with Derrickson. Derrickson just flat out gets after it.

I only watched bits and pieces of the Paul VI game on the replay this afternoon -but Derrickson, wow! I hate to say this, but a sophomore this good is going to have a very tough time turning down Kentucky/Indiana/Duke/UNC type schools when they focus in on him, which they will. He seems like a great fit for the hoyas, both in talent and (as far as one can tell by brief interviews posted on line) attitude. But he will have to be a pretty rare kid to turn down everything those super big time schools have to offer because he appreciates the more subtle (but perhaps more valuable for some kids) value of attending Georgetown. In the end, I just hope he does not announce where he is going to school on ESPN!

What was particularly impressive is that the kid his many many pro-like step back jumpers from mid-range and three ... and made them. He's really progressed which is saying something because he was a player last year.
I think he's a SF in College and actually believe he'd work our really well in our system. It's amazing how poised and consistent. Love the kid. Won't be easy to get him.
