Marcus plays on a team with guys signed to play with UConn, Arizona, Georgetown, Louisville, Wisconsin, and UVA??? Wow!
Averaging 12 and 6 on a team like this is like averaging 24 and 12 at a lot of other places.
Copeland's numbers from Brewster last year were similarly muted, and we see how ready he is to play on the college level.
That is one helluva high school program.

Adams had 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists in the victory, while Justin Simon (Temecula, CA) added 17 points and 6 rebounds. Senior guard Donovan Mitchell (Greenwich, CT) contributed 18 points and 7 rebounds, as well as several clutch free-throws down the stretch. Postgraduate guard David Crisp (Lakewood, WA) added 14 points and strong defense. Senior forward Marcus Derrickson (Landover, MD) chipped in with 9 points, while Alex Illikainen (Grand Rapids, MN) and Jarred Reuter (Marion, MA) combined for 10 points.

Actually, from even just the first 2:45, you can see Marcus play well, including:
- nice pass from the post to a cutter who draws a foul - good rebound and outlet for successful fast break - nice spin move from the post for a reverse lay in.
He definitely looks decently mobile to me!

I've now watched the whole game, and here are my takeaways:
- Derrickson is the tallest guy on the team and plays center for Brewster every second he's on the court - At least against Tilton, the coach only subbed Marcus briefly and kept him on the court nearly the whole game - Overall, I'd describe Marcus' game like a Euro big man. - He has a great outside shot and doesn't mind firing away. Particularly impressive was a step-back three, where he fluidly dribbled inside the three-point line, then took one step back and swished a three. - He's mediocre at rebounding currently since he isn't that quick at reacting to where the ball goes. He's decent at boxing out, but sometimes his man got by him. - Marcus is not a rim protector. Whenever Terance Mann got by his man and took it to the hoop, he easily finished over Marcus (who could not rise up to block the shot quickly). - Beyond his outside shot, Marcus excels at driving to the hoop. He had some nice pump fakes from three, and then drove in for a layup - He also has a nice spin move when he's posting up that he tried a couple times (one time he finished and the other time he had a nice baseline pass) - Marcus' mid-range game is pretty non-existent. While I think he could hit a free-throw range shot if wide open, he can't get those types of looks off the dribble.
Overall, I think Marcus fits really well on offense and will be a nice four-man who can be effective against zone or man. However, I think it's his defense which will probably limit how much JT3 plays him initially (since JT3 puts a huge premium on that). Until Marcus proves he can effectively cover the court, he may not play more than 5-10 minutes a game.

Boys' Prep Basketball at Bridgton Academy 2/25/2015 6:00 PM W 98 - 51 The prep basketball team wrapped up the regular season with a convincing win on the road over Bridgton Academy, 98-51. A balanced Brewster attack was led by postgraduate guard David Crisp (Lakewood, WA) with 24 points, while Marcus Derrickson (Landover, MD) added 14 points. The Bobcats shot an impressive 57% from the field and was a torrid 14 for 24 from three-point range. Also, the visitors shot 80% from the free-throw line. Justin Simon (Temecula, CA), Donovan Mitchell (Greenwich, CT), and unsigned guard Joseph Sherbune (Whitefish Bay, WI) all contributed 12 points in the contest. Senior forward Alex Illikainen chipped in 10 points.

Marcus Derrickson (Brewster) – The Georgetown commit produced 10 points, but it was his ability to matchup defensively against STM's 6-10 center Steven Enoch, who is headed to UConn and finished with just two points, that stood out. Despite giving up two inches, Derrickson showed great strength on the block, repeatedly using his powerful frame to prevent Enoch from establishing good post position and also used sound rebounding technique to keep the Norwalk, Conn. product off the boards. Outstanding! He will contribute from Day 1.
