Maybe I am just too jaded, but I can't imagine this ever being on campus. It's absolutely beautiful. So I'm sure it won't get built.

The ANC voted to support the ATF last night (with extended whining about the lack of housing on top of the building). Next stop is OGB (again) on Thursday. Mark your calendars for April 26. DC resident alumni and fans should send letters to the Zoning Commission in support of the new facility. The Hoya reports they unanimously opposed the ATF? Sounds like we have conflicting reports... can someone clear this up?

if anyone would know it would be tables. If he says it passed ANC, then it did. The hoya is probably saying from last time it was rejected

The Hoya doesn't speak "ANC-speak." The ANC's resolution was that it does not "object to the ATF in principle" but then raises concerns regarding the lack of housing.
It's pretty common for ANCs to vote to "support" but then include a litany of concerns or conditions.

When I hear about lack of housing on top of the building, why do I get flashbacks to Penn Central v. NYC? mas.org/images/media/original/thomas-bowers-plan-st-barts-240.jpg

Maybe we can get "student housing" on top for our "student-athletes" like UK...it would be difficult to match the size of their study room though ;D

So they are building it over the tennis courts? That is the location, but the tennis courts will move.

If anything ought to make you loathe government, it's this. Why shouldn't GU be able to build whatever it wants on its own campus as long as it doesn't have huge negative impacts on the community? And by "huge negative impacts" I don't mean someone doesn't like the brick-to-glass ratio or the school's choice of curtains.

there are actually no current plans for moving the tennis courts anywhere else on campus, nor the ourdoor basketball courts.

Well I assume the indoor tennis courts and basketball courts in Yates will carry the burden until they make plans for new out door courts.

The relevant part of The Hoya's article: At the meeting [yesterday evening], the ANC also unanimously voted not to support the modified designs for the university’s proposed Athletic Training Facility. ...
[C]ommissioners expressed concern about the facility’s limited scope and inefficient use of space. “I … think it’s fair and appropriate, since we are right in the middle of the Campus Plan, to at least express concern with the Zoning Commission about the less than fully efficient use of the space and the opportunity costs of not having proposed at a least a different use, possibly for on-campus student housing,” Lewis said.
NOTE that The Hoya published a correction yesterday (in bold at the bottom of the article):www.thehoya.com/news/university-anc-request-extension-of-campus-plan-process-1.2836961#.T3xCzfBYvC-

This is just so consistent with that organization's selfish approach - the only thing that matters is getting more student housing on campus so that the school can be forced to minimize the number of students that apparently threaten the neighbors' way of life off campus. Georgetown clearly needs a modern athletic center regardless of the level of the basketball program (not to mention that the level of the program has been important to its national image) - but this is irrelevant to the ANC - probably just as irrelevant as the appearance of any new facility. What drives them is the desire to get 18 to 22 year-olds out of their neighborhood as much as possible.

I think it's timing more than anything. The science project was already covered by the last 10 year plan and went through all these approvals before the 10 years plan battles started. Now that they're in the middle of it still they're using every opportunity they can get to attack us. That project also received less press than this, so perhaps it did and we just never heard about it.

Yes, keep in mind that the ATF was originally approved without any objection from the ANC at the same time as the Science Center. This is purely about timing.

i think that there was some opposition as they oppose everything but this seems much more. science building VERY needed since 1962 and i a survey of local colleges jr colleges adn HIGH SCHOOLS science building and facilites lower htan most and even some high schools. so.. and as far as business school... i think less resistance. and it shows if YOU HAVE MONEY THINGS GET DONE QUICKLY and the business school got alot of money quickly.. so it is what it is MUST move move move and move on.
