Here is my first annual end of the season grades of our players and coach:
OTTO- A + Obviously should have been on the all big east frosh team. This kid has the best upside, hes exactly the player we needed last year, tough, a ton of heart..
SIMS- A Henry should get a B, but taking into account his first three years couldnt start for a D3 team, he gets the higher mark. He played his ass off this year. Probably the best career turnaround I have ever seen. Henry was a monster for us this year. He will be missed.
CLARK- B+ Senior leader, worked his ass off. Never afraid of a big shot and never drifted...
Hollis- C+ Ive been hard on Hollis, I thought he was going to be a dominant threat, a first team all big east type of guy. Ive been on him for floating through games from the beginning of the season. Anyways, seems like an awesome kid, whos alot better at basketball than me so I wish him luck next year..
LUBE LUBICK- D If it wasnt for his passing ability I would have given him an F. I think he regressed this year. I dont see the offensive talent I wanted to see. He cant hit free throws. I guess he hustled and as mentioned earlier a very good passer.
Bench- Starks, Trawick, Whit, Hopkins- B Whit is going to be solid, really grew as a player. Starks I still believe in. Starks has game, a solid 3 point shot and I think will be very good next year. Trawick is going ot be very good. I like his toughness, can always hit the 3. Hopkins, also had a good frosh year.
Coaching- B- Jt3 is a very good coach. Listen, its all about recruiting. We need better players its that simple. I like our system. I like it that everyone recruited can shoot, dribble and pass. I think we have to recruit some dominant lead and shooting guards. We need to sprinkle in a few one or two and dones. We still struggle out of timeouts, I dont know why. I also dont like our end of game play..
Overall a good season. We have a solid base in place and a good coach. I think with the addition of DSR and maybe NOEL were in great shape. Its all about recruiting. We have to change our mind set and strive for the elite 8 and final four. Just making the tournament cant be a goal.

Really cool idea rich, and definitely a good conversation starter.
We disagree in a few areas:
I'd probably bump Otto to an A. No such thing as an A+ in college classes, so its probably a little strong here. He was tremendous this season though, at times even playing like our best player. Couldn't have asked for much more than what he gave us.
I'd put Henry at an A-. Amazing improvement considering he's probably coming from a C. The only thing that kept him from a solid A in my opinion, was the phase at the beginning and in the middle of the conference schedule in which he was a little bit absent at times.
Jason gets an A from me. First Team All BE. He was the glue on a team that exceeded expectations. Had a tough game every now and then, but we would have been a bubble team without him. More importantly, he represented the school with great class throughout the season, as indicated by the Sportsmanship Award and praise from opposing coaches such as Jay Wright.
Hollis gets a B. We expected him to have a massive breakout season. It didn't happen. Removing those lofty expectations, he still had a pretty solid season. He shot .450 from three, and had some great games. He was actually pretty big on the boards too (think his rebounding ability is underrated) Obviously, there were some serious disappearing acts that were frustrating, but I'd love to see what he could do with his senior season.
Lubick gets a C-. There wasn't much improvement. He had some really tough moments. I didn't really understand it until today, but he really does a lot for this team that doesn't show up on the stat sheet. Of course, I totally agreed with his serious reduction in minutes. I have great faith that he'll work tirelessly to get better this offseason.
I agree with your assessment of the bench, but I might bump Whitt to a B+. He was really impressive for a freshman at the end of this season. Great defense. Can hit the 3. He'll be scary.
JTII gets an A for his performance this year. He made some great adjustments based on his talent: 2-3 zone, pressure, busting the zone with Otto. That A also includes his recruiting effort to bring in the freshman. Unreal group of players.

Here's something to look forward to next year with Greg: Last 11 games: 10-18 from 3 and 12-15 from the FT line.

Agree exactly with richfames grades except for the bench. You can't put Starks in with the frosh - he should have been better with a year under his belt and was not. I give him a C for the year, but I thought he played much better after coming off the bench. I'd also rate Hopkins and Whittington higher than Trawick.
Coach as a B is right. Not bad at all and I'm not looking to replace him, but the problem with that grade is that most great teams have an A coach. So how do we become a great team with a B coach? We need more A players!

When you are an offensive liability need to have double digit rebuilding to justify being on the court.

I thought Jason was our best player and earned an A. The voters for all-BE were right.
Henry and Otto, B+
Hollis, B-
Nate, C Got better lately.
Markel, C- Not sure what happened there
Greg, B
Rest of bench: C I'm not as sold on Jabril as most people seem to be, but it will be fun to find out how good he can become. Hops got better as the year went on, played better than expectations. Disappointed that Bowen couldn't find more time.
Coaches: B+ I honestly think this was one of JT3's better coaching years. We overachieved, had outstanding team chemistry.

Lubick an F? Really? Nobody on the team this year was even close to regressing. Nate played well all season long. He didn't average 20 a game, but you don't need to in order to have an impact. There isn't a single player on this team that regressed this year. People will point fingers at Markel saying he didn't play too well towards the end. Markel definitely improved from last year, just not as much as some of the other players so his goes unnoticed. Markel rarely even shot the ball last year, and this year had several games in which he helped carry the scoring load.

I know we're all supposed to believe that Henry was a goofball who "enjoyed" college life too much and didn't take ball seriously. Some of it is true but I think a good deal of the blame should go to JT3 who insisted on playing him out of position for two straight years when it was clear he couldn't handle the 4 spot. Henry's freshman year can be excused but his sophomore year was all JT3's fault.

In the BE tournament Lubick didn't even play in the second half in the Pitt and Cincy Game. And there was game during the season where he logged little minutes. Do understand Nate was a starter last year. I am looking forward to Nate rebounding next year because I believe he as the skill and desire to be a better player. But the fact remain that Nate to play like he needed to this year. This was a successful season. No one player is to blame and each player needs to improve there game. I don't think my post has been disgusting. I just think in order for Gtown to win big games they must stick true to what they do best. When 26 of your 51 FGs in the third round of the NCAA are 3 that says a lot. That stat is why we lost today. That is a team stat not an individual one.

Jason - A-.... He was the unquestionable leader of this team and everyone looked up to him. He was great in that role and had a better overall senior campaign then either chris or Austin....that's all you can ask for. Markel - C .... He was great against louisville and showed flashes here and there. Need him to be an offensive threat on a game in and game out basis. I do think he's going to make the jump from average to good next year. Nate-C-.... Nate is what he is. I thought he played one of his best games today. Even with that, don't think he'll ever elevate his game to where we hoped it would go. Otto - A-....kid did everything that was asked from him and did it well. All we can hope for now is 2 more years. Hollis- B .... He had a decent year, But really faded in the end. Thought he made some nice improvements on defense and rebounding and not enough improvement in his ball handling and getting his own shot. Henry - B+...agree with the poster who said he was an F who made himself into one of the best big men in our conference. Whit - B.....has A+ upside. Hit the weights son. Jabril - C+ .... Love his attitude and look forward to seeing his progress next year. Needs to shoot 300 3 pointers a day from now until October. If he can make himself a perimeter threat, there will be no stopping this kid. Hop - B-.... really liked what I saw from him all year. I like his motor and the intensity he plays with. He's got nice post moves, is decisive in the blocks, and started looking much more comfortable with the ball in his hands. Coach - A-.... Took 10 frosh and soph without a single mcd aa and turned them into a top 10 team for much of the year. He took our weaknesses, and made defense and rebounding our strength.

Coach A+: How quickly we forget. We lost 6 players from last year's squad, 4 Seniors and 2 transfers. Three of those were starters. We lost 40 pts per game, which represented 57% of our scoring total. Our bench this yr was all freshmen, until OP was inserted into the starting lineup. Two of our bigs were not available to us because of injury/illness. Yet, for most of the year we were ranked top 12, earned a 3 seed, and came within one possession of the sweet sixteen. That deserves an A+ in my book.

Clark B+- Henry B Lubick C-...... Starks C-.......avg major college point guard. He actually played well vs NC ST. One of those guys that talks better than he plays. He is the reason why I stop looking at youtube highlights to judge recruits. Hollis C.....- very disappointing year. Expect more from player who has been in the system as long as he has. He still cant dribble and has horrendous body language for a team leader. Porter B.....-has a chance to be a very special player. I would love to see his +/- stats because team played best when he is on the floor. G-Whitt C.......-Future is very bright for this long and athletic wing. Could be scary if he develops the ability to beat his man off the dribble. He and Porter will be quite the duo.

My only problem with GW, other than his weight, is his tendency to float thru games. He looks so lackluster then boom; he hits a 3 or gets a big board and stick back. Defensively he just needs to get his weight up and stop gambling. He and OP on the wings will be ridiculous.
