Bigger question isn't if Starks gets his old job back--it's what does he need to do to beat out Jabril who I thought was excellent yesterday--and has been most of the year. Starks deserves credit for 2nd Half against Louisville but it was Jabril who got team into that game when they were sleep walking in First Half--he came in, was assertive/aggressive, got some hoops, got to the FT line-(I dont' think there is any question he's the best Hoya under III in terms of drawing fouls on opponents/driving to basket and he's only a FR--wait until he improves) and he DEFENDS like a pitbull. Trawick doesn't care if he's liked by everyone and instead of a fake smile to act like he's calm on the court--he's jawing and sneering and knows he's belongs--which is the refreshing part of the Frosh class--they don't care about reputation/rankings or hype--they go out and try to bust people's ass all game. Whittington was in defensive stance/smiling/talking at Ty Johnson and Johnson got so rattled he threw the ball away. Trawick was not friendly with Johnson. Trawick smacked Cheek around in loose ball scramble and it's been lacking around this program since PE Jr left-guys who are willing to do little things that make team better--and know what team needs on given night--might be scoring, hustle plays, hard foul, etc.....and I'll take that basketball IQ mixed with defensive intensity/athleticism over the scattered shooting, guard who chooses to ignore what coach says with 3 games left in regular season when that coach has given him a pass for his substandard play.
Starks has to beat Jabril out and play harder/better to get some minutes--not worry about getting his "Spot" back.
Ditto! Trawick is a consistent jump shot and a little stronger handle in traffic from being a PG for this team. If he improves in these areas over the summer, Starks will be able to play in his more comfortable position as off guard next year. Starks has to show the other team that he is not afraid of being pressured, false smile does not deter a real player. Plus defense sees how quick he is to give up ball when he is pressured. He needs to study Chris Wright's play against the press where he would continue to dribble ball at the defender and make him ride him down the court until refs call a foul.
