Here is the Video Link: tv4u.com/show-large-video.asp?cid=26&sid=705&vid=1971&t=1982Want to point out a couple of things about this game. First is that Mizzou's star Ricky Frazier was from the Charleston Missouri, a small town about 10 miles from Sikeston. He and Otto Sr. were a year apart in high school and had some great head to head battles growing up. To this day, it is still debatable who the better player was. Second is that Ricky, himself, still claims to have had his jumpshot blocked only one time in his career....that one time happened in this game by Ewing. Finally is that Mizzou guard "Moon" McCrary was a JUCO transfer from Three Rivers CC where he had played alongside Coach Kirby. While there, they helped lead Three Rivers to their first National Championship in 1979.

Some more local color. It was an extremely hot (for February) Saturday afternoon. Former player Mike Frazier was a rep for Miller at the time and he brought a beer truck with taps on the side to fuel the students before the game. It was a very happy crowd. The week before the game, Stpanovich had been caught with a handgun in his dorm room. The band wanted to put a cover over the tubas with a "no guns" symbol, but were warned off it.

Actually Stipanovich had made up an entire story about robbers after an incident with his own gun. Several McDonough fans wore ski masks and had "Who Shot Stupo?" Signs.
without doubt one of the best days in my 4 years on campus. From McGuire's Pub visit to Ewing's missed alley oop which nearly brought rain, simply priceless.

This is simply amazing. First time I've ever gotten the chance to see this game. Thanks so much, Crash.
Also, and I say this as someone who wasn't even born yet when this game was played (so none of this "back in my day" crap, just pure objectivity): THIS is how Georgetown fans should be engaged when at a home game. Take a hard look at this student section, current students.

To be fair, DFW's archives indicate that this was unusual turnout for the student body back then as well: www.hoyasaxa.com/sports/archives/archive0305.htm#15

At around 76:20, you can discern a WAG chant from the crowd. I sincerely thought it was added after JT3's arrival.

Somebody posted this on here a few years back, and for a long time I searched for it (thought it was on youtube somewhere) with no luck. Thanks for posting and ending that search.
I LOVE everything about McDonough in this video. I hope that once the IAC is built we'll have the ability to do some renovations on McD and that some day we'll have some on-campus atmospheres like this again.

We didn't know any better. We thought this is how all Georgetown games should be with the students occupying most (all) of the seats at McD.

It was the last true meeting of the Animal Section high above McDonough. I'm sure Lic was in there some where!

This is absolutely awesome -- thanks, crashdavis, QUITE the Presidents' Day gift you have provided to the Faithful!!! The complete link to the site, with many other vintage non-Hoya games in it, is below. For what it's worth (and for you youngsters especially), the site includes the '79 Indiana State v. Depaul Final Four semi -- where Bird was 16 for 19 from the floor/35 points (pre 3 point shot of course). One of the GREAT one man shows you will ever see. Bird broke a finger on his shooting hand later that Spring, and always claimed he was never as good a shooter afterwards as before -- a claim it is hard to believe if you didn't see him play like this . .. tv4u.com/show-video.asp?cid=26&sid=705&vid=2607&t=1969%20Villanova%20vs%20Penn&cat=Classic%20Sports

Thank you Crash great way to waste the end of the day. also great to point out how well we played the zone. everyone still thinks we were primarily a man defense program. we had length at every position.

They missed more layups and close shots than the present Hoyas are doing. Still they won easily.
