Come on people...."it's time to go Ivy." Seriously? As if that is a "choice" we can make. That's like saying "it's time for me to run a 4.2 40" or "it's time to win Powerball lottery". In what realm of reality do you live in to think that any school can just 'go Ivy"?

"It's time to be first in the USNWR rankings." Okay, no problem.

In what realm of reality do you live in to think that any school can just 'go Ivy"? I thought the same thing when I read that post. It is also high time that we quadrupled our endowment and doubled the size of our campus. I'm always surprised how many people are deluded into thinking that Ivy league would be happy to have us if we just sucked it up and lowered our standards for the hoops team, or even slightly more absurd, that we can join the Ivies in all sports save hoops. And what is this mention of MIT, who is DIII in all sports but crew (not just football.) They have no business engaging the Ivies on the field of play and their facilities, budgets and recruiting norms are a total non-starter for Ivy league play. Where did that come from? Should we also toss in the Julliard School while we're at it? The Ivy league is a much better all around athletic league that many think, ironically the "many" being some of those who think we can and should just join up. The reality is the Ivy league is a closed club and is not nor will they be opening up slots for membership.

As I understand it, the proposal is not to move all sports into the Ivy League, it is to affiliate the football program with the Ivy League (on some level). As I am not privy to the discussions admininstration may be having with the Ivies, I cannot speak to them directly. As for timing, if it is ever going to happen, now is the time to investigate it given the PL scholarship change.

I can't see them even considering anything other than a non-binding and informal (and probably non-public) pledge to schedule us as a non-con opponent in football as often as possible. If that happens, is it really worth anything? The question really is: is that enough to move the program to independent status in the long term? (All of this highly academic at this point of course.)
I'm not sure is my honest answer. I'm torn. Part of me thinks playing the Ivies is more exciting than any PL game now so a season with 4-5 Ivies would be great. But then it seems like we'd end up playing a mostly full PL season too- so why not stay there as a non-schollie and play 3-4 ivies too? I just can't see the Ivies giving us 7-8 games a year since it seems too close to football associate membership. Imagine if we won 7 or 8 Ivy league games one season and were not Ivy champs? That would be embarrassing for the league. No matter how unlikely that scenario at this time I have to think they will avoid the possibility.

Speaking as a former recruit that picked Gtown over Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, & Brown in part because of the league's playoff option (ya, i know), being independent will hurt recruiting. If anyone of importance reads this board, keep that idea in your head - the league does matter. Independence won't be as cool as the 1776 variety.
DFW (or whoever may know) - given our funding difference from the nearest league member is ~$500k (I believe), what additional cash gap/title IX funding issues are we facing in trying to keep up with the PL arms race in football? I plan on hitting those powerball tickets hard in the coming months. I'll call my endowment the "Little Lebowski Urban Achievers". The Dude abides.
