Well, Jessie Sapp was in the building today so therein might lie the confusion. Nice to see him.

I'm not sure of the exact number because the box score I'm using doesn't split out team rebounds, but we gathered somewhere around 53% of our misses.
That's the best thing about this game. Kudos also to the defense and only 12 turnovers, which is still going to be around 20%, which is more passable than good, but I'll take it.

Starks... still concussed? I would say yes. I'm not a doctor but just from watching him after the play. I experienced a concussion 6 mths ago and Im still not 100% back to where I was prior. You just feel a step slow when your out on the court. Quick head movements cause a little fuzziness. I don't expect Markel to be playing at L'Ville levels until next year. He will be good but we all saw possible greatness after that game and I don't think that will happen this year. As for Laven, apparently his body can't take the stress of game day coaching. ESPN reported that he is still running everything but the sidelines during games. He tried to come back too soon and had some issues. The report said he was usually in the booth during games. I found that to be odd. If I were watching my team play I would experience the same stress levels in a booth or on the court............

Hopkins getting the start over Nate. to clarify this, the in-arena announcer announced Hopkins instead of Nate, but i believe Nate actually started. not sure what the confusion could have been...

Just following on ESPN gamecast and it sure looked like Hollis' three was huge when SJU got within 3. Looks like Clark and Otto had great games. Shot of the game!

I would say yes. I'm not a doctor but............ I stopped reading. too bad, b/c he goes on to say he recently experienced a concussion himself. seems to me markel definitely could still be feeling it. still can't believe the staff let him come back in that game...

Good to see this win - a must in my opinion. Funny stat of the day, if you can believe the ESPN line: at half the rebs were even at 25, at the end Hoyas 41, SJU 29.

I thought that markel played well on D and is simply still getting into the flow of things. I think that markel's problem is that he's passing up on open looks and when he does so, our offense stalls. I want markel to shoot every time he is open and will live with the misses.
On the flip side, loved how when otto's shot wasn't falling that he just kept shooting until it did. Markel needs to take note.

Great game for Otto after a few rough showings. I'd really love to see a few more of those mid-range jumpers fall though. If he had found his stroke a little sooner, we'd be talking about him scoring 20. Also, Whittington grabbing 8 boards was huge. He approached a double double as well. He'll be stuffing the stat sheet for years to come. The future will be very bright with Greg at the 2, Otto at the 3, and eventually Hopkins at the 4 (he's looking better each time out). This team is really going to miss Jason Clark next season though. The leadership and stability he gives this team is underrated. Not to mention, he almost had a triple double today. We'll miss his shot creating abilities. We can only hope that a trio of Markel, Jabril, and DSR can pick up the slack. Add Tyler and Moses at the 5, and it will be exciting for a few years to come. Plus Jabril's toughness.

cAHILL WAS ON THE WHISTLE. He must have been sick, no mystery fouls on the HOYASD

I am a physician. Know enough not to hypothesize that every time a player looks a little off that it is from a concussion although some of the hard fouls allowed can be concerning. Still, concussions are serious and I hope Georgetown Athletics is baselining all our student athletes and not letting them have contact until they are fully recovered. I agree that Starks seemed back to being a little tentative with his shot rather than being horribly off with his shot which would seem to suggest that not having as long to get planted like in our earlier games may be affecting his willingness to take the shot against better defenses. Louisville was a great game for Starks but remember earlier in the year Clark said he had to encourage Starks to take those shots. Seems like Starks needs Clark in his ear again. Cahill reffing the game doesn't surprise me that it seemed every time a St. John player ran into Sims whose feet were on the ground with outstretched arms, Sims was called for the foul. I also thought there was another phantom baseline out of bounds call on Porter for a second game in a row.

I know this will be a topic for another day but i don't see Mikael playing the 4 spot. He seems to be a 5 in JT3's system(which is where he plays when he comes in) he doesn't have the handle to play on the perimeter.

Hop has a nice touch on FTs, though.
It wasn't just his shot where Markel was off today. It was like he was playing through thicker air or something. To be fair, same with Henry.
The good news at G is that this year's Jason is fully capable of being a PG when we need him to. He's really been fabulous the last several games.
I'm not sure I see the outstanding defense from Jabril that other people do. I like him, think he will be a very good player for us as he develops, but I'm glad we don't need him to start. He's still learning, and makes his share of mistakes on D.

I am just back from the game. I'm not going to comment now on the game, as others have more than covered it and it was a nice win to see at Madison Square Garden. Georgetown fans made a great showing today, with fans all over the arena and a very lively group of Hoyas fans. I was coincidentally near a Casual Hoya group that showed a lot of spirit.
As for St. John's, their showing was pretty pathetic, I would say. There was no clear crowd support behind them and being "home" didn't seem to get them very far today.
This was a much better showing than the Big East tournament, when our fans are usually totally overwhelmed by every other school (I don't say this critically, it's just the experience I've had there during the tournament).

Agreed -- surprisingly good showing by Hoya fans today.
But to disagree with the previous post - when the Hoyas have been in the semis or finals of the Big East tourney the last few years ('07, '08, '10) there have been a lot of Hoyas in the crowd in my opinion.

Markel Starks didnt have a concussion. So hes not "still concussed". His shot fell off before the collision at the Cincy game.

Markel hit the first shot of the game for us. I don't think its a concussion issue, I think it's a confidence issue.
