Note to Fellow Moderator DanMcQ: ACC basketball powerhouse BC loses to its crosstown rival BU Terriers. At home. By 14. rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recap?gid=201112030058Glad to see the Newton Jesuit plan for molding the Eagles into a national athletic juggernaut is gaining such strong traction. May our soon-to-be dearly departed BE brethren Pitt Panthers, Syracuse Orangemen and West Virginia Mountaineers singularly and similarly emulate BC's compelling model of success.....

That shouldn't even happen in hockey. But hey, with Cuse and Pitt coming, they'll have some ACC games closer than Maryland!

Wrong, CT; the Beanpot tourney/BU-BC rivalry in hockey is like UNC-Duke, GU-SU in hoops---highly competitive and generally fiercely/tightly fought.
But for BC men's hoops to lose to BU AND Holy Cross in the same year???!?? Imagine GU losing to GW and AU---that's the equivalent.
Point here is that the Newton Jesuits' crass, base and unseemly pursuit of athletic $$$ and success at any and all costs at the mighty idol of men's football has reaped the rewards it so justly deserves.....

I'm well aware of BU's place in the college hockey world. My brother went to BC and played hockey with (mostly against) former BC player/current Chicago Blackhawk (or maybe minor leaguer at the moment) Ben Smith growing up.* I meant this year, as BC has been better so far.
It will be interesting to see if their basketball attendance gets a slight bump now that they're going to have some home games against Pitt and Syracuse, i.e., schools that the students might actually know people who attend. At any rate, I'm completely with you on the main point.
*Thinly veiled major stretch brag post?

Wait a sec, Wilson, I thought BC's official moniker is Fredo? Newton Jesuit is unsatisfactory, as it reminds us of our unfortunate link with that school. Plus, I thought they were in Chestnut Hill.
Fredo's failings are truly heartwarming, though.
CT, Ben Smith is on the Hawks' roster and he scored his first goal last night against the Islanders.

Please do not insult Fredo by comparing him to Benedictarnold College.

Yes, WBH, and home game attendance was a season high 4976
UNH - 3588 UMass - 4162 Penn St - 4326
Nice to see that beautiful on-campus arena right next to the dorms banged out with students and donor-based seating alums! Still plenty of room if you want to catch ACC fever. What bowl game is the football team playing in this year, by the way?
As a bonus (for those who don't know), John Cahill Jr is averaging 20.6 minutes per game at the PG. That should tell you all you need to know about their roster.

Maryland fans really packing the Booth for their BB&T game against Notre Dame. Looks emptier than Hoyas-NJIT.

Here are their YTD rankings out of 344 total Division I teams.
PPG - 316th RPG - 322nd APG - 308th FG% - 317th
Record is 2-6 with the following wins: 67-64 over New Hampshire 66-62 (OT) over UC Riverside
This year's Eagles squad may be the worst major conference team of the last 10 years.

Just a little update on our good friends in Chestnut Hill, whose greed in my opinion was the real genesis of the conference civil wars that have become so common...
The football team as we know was among the very worst in a BCS conference this past fall.
The basketball team has thus far lost to Holy Cross, Umass, BU, and crushed at home by Harvard for their 4th consecutive loss to the Crimson. Way to throw that ACC weight around New England. To be fair, they did manage a 3-point win over UNH and an OT thriller over UC Riverside.
Hope it was worth the money Fredo.

Coach Spaz will turn around their FB team, but their BB team is questionable.

Note: I combined the two threads on The Original Big East Traitors. As an aside, the Harvard massacre was the first sellout this year for BenedictArnold College.

Hope it was worth the money Fredo. A cautionary tale to the Orangemen in the post-Boeheim era. I wish it were so, but I don't think 'Cuse is in any danger of going the way of BC. Syracuse is effectively the flagship university of New York state, given the fragmentation of the SUNYs and their relative invisibility in the major college sports scene, along with the steady and continuing (if understandable) downward spiral of West Point athletics. Granted, the percentage of people who care about college sports in New York isn't all that high, but sheer numbers makes up for that to an extent. More importantly, the Oranges basically fill the role of pro teams for a metropolitan area of 650,000, where they are just about the only game in town. With these two bases of support, it is really hard to picture a scenario in which they go the way of BC. I must admit that, in light of some of the poor choices made by Boston College (and Georgetown), the thought has crossed my mind that maybe this generation of Jesuits just isn't very good at strategic and/or market analysis. I mean, if there's any city in the country that is a pro city through and through, it's Boston, where there is mass identification with one team (even among those who aren't into sports), an extremely storied tradition with another team (eight titles in a row will never happen again), and a great deal of recent success with a third (Patsies sucking up all of the football oxygen in New England). Boston has proven to be such infertile ground for college football that two city programs have been abolished entirely in recent years. And this is the context in which BC decides it's a good idea to stake everything on football? In a conference where it has no natural/geographic rivals? This is BC's "Mount Vernon Mistake."
