Nice write-up! Hollis needs to be more aggressive?? Where have we heard that before?

Ha! How true. But , I give him a world of credit for shooting 40 % from nba 3, and averaging 6 points per game in the League.

Not a great night for Otto. 28 mins, 1-10, 0-2 three point, 4 pts, 4 rbs Hollis was good. 21 mins. 5-5, including 3-3 from three. 15 pts, 3 rbs Henry was ok. fg% was terrible but he hustled. 24 mins. 3-15. 6 pts, 10 rbs.

At least Otto is healthy and playing. I like that he took 10 shots, even if he didn't make them. Shows he's being aggressive unlike last year when he was just trying to blend in and was scared to do anything. Also they're actually playing him - he's going to get every chance to play 25 minutes a game early on. Just needs to be himself because Otto can ball.
Good to see Hollis and Henry starting, even if it's for a team that is happy to win 15 games this year.

The Wiz are counting on Otto giving them 20-25 minutes a game and doing all of the dirty work that Paul Pierce won't do. Rebounds, defense, steals. But, he will also still need to get 8-10 points a game, to stay in the rotation. I would like to see him try to get to the line more, when his shot is not falling, like he did at Gtown. Of course, easier said then done, I know!

Otto, at least, was +7, so he finds a way to win, even though his shooting was not on.

Someone has to sit for the Pistons because the Drummond, Monroe, Smith front court experiment was an unadulterated disaster. Since Monroe is 1) really a center and 2) almost definitely on his way out of town after this season, it's not surprising he drew short straw. He's going to play a lot of minutes anyway and will probably be very good in them. Especially if they let him play more at center.

Is Drummond really that good? I understand he's an athletic freak and really young, but does he have any offensive skill to speak of besides dunking and rebounding. Not to discount those qualities, but it seems to me that people are way too high on him. I mean, you wouldn't build a team around Deandre Jordan, right? And Drummond seems more Deandre than Dwight to me, and I don't think Dwight's that amazing either.

No that it's a major point, but Drummond's free throw shooting is still abysmal. I think he was slightly above 40% this past season, which improves on the sub-30% rate he had at Connecticut.

Dwight is still the best center in the league and in his prime he was one of the three best players overall. He is/was pretty damn good. If that's your ceiling, that's a compliment. Drummond is better than DeAndre Jordan already, and he's six years younger.
To answer your question, yes, Drummond is really really good and he's really really young. As a 20 year old last season he put in 13 points per game and pulled down 13 boards while shooting 62 percent from the field. There aren't a lot of guys who have done anything close to that while being so young. His free throw shooting is abysmal and his defense is very much a work in progress. But if you're the Pistons, you have to build around Drummond because there's a very real shot that he's the best center in the league sometime in the next few years.

Yeah, plus Drummond's defensive potential is up there with anyone in the league, non Anthony Davis division. Greg, as good as he is offensively, is not a floor spacer at a time when space is at an absolute premium in the NBA, which makes him hard to play with Drummond and absolutely impossible to play with Drummond and Smith. Coming off the bench is probably good for him--lowers the likelihood that he's playing with both of those guys. He's also not good defensively, so he struggles with quick 4s and isn't enough of a rim protector to be an ideal 5. A clever team can still take advantage of his offensive game (think the Bobcats and Al Jefferson), but he's kind of stuck being really good at certain things that are out of vogue in the NBA, and being bad at the things that are in vogue. 15 years ago, he gets a monster deal. It'll be interesting to where he ends up next year.

Someone on some website did a writeup not too long on Greg's numbers/stats and came to the conclusion that he was nowhere near defensive liability that some make him out to be and that he was coming off his best season ever in terms of hitting jumpshots from outside the paint. But, hey, if folks in the NBA would rather have their bigs hit threes than display successful post moves near the basket then its no wonder less and less players are averaging 20 points per contest. Guys are being pushed into taking less efficient shots.
I have crazy love for Drummomd as a rebounder but I'm not buying his offensive game at all. Shooting 62% as a result of alley-oop dunks and fastbreak slams is fool's gold which you can't cash in during the playoffs when halfcourt defenses become much more suffocating and stingy. If he is this great player that everyone claims then he needs to get his team into the playoffs in a weak Eastern Conference. We'll see what he'll add on to his game this season.

After going 1 for 10 last night, Otto had 12 pts and 5 rebounds in 23 minutes and hit the go ahead shot with 3 minutes to go against the Pelicans. 4 for 5 from the field. Hank Sims 9 pts and 5 reb for Sixers tonight.
