good for them two! a bit surprised that jeff is ranked higher than rudy gay but i guess rudy gay's stats have also been semi-overrated.

To be fair, Otto is getting some unwarranted criticisms, but Oubre does have a higher ceiling than Otto with his athleticism and other intangible qualities. Whether Oubre actually reaches his ceiling, and if so, when, are the questions here. That said, I don't ever think Oubre will in any-way replace Otto on the line-up with two of them being completely different players. Not to mention, it will take a lot of years of seasoning for Oubre to actually make contributions in the league. Really? What "intangibles" does Oubre possess that Otto does not? And can we please stop with the "Otto isn't athletic" BS. When did that become a thing? never said otto isn't athletic - i think he got standard athleticism at an NBA level - but oubre is definitely more athletic. oubre was projected as high as 3rd or 4th pick in most mock draft boards before he underperformed at kansas but reason why he was ranked that high coming out of high school isnt just based on basketball skills - it is also what i meant by intangibles - which is his marketability: a lot of scouts and some GMs have believed that he has some star qualities with his personal ego (stating before the draft that "which ever team picks me will win championship), rare left handy, or maybe even his unique outlook.

The problem there is that if you can't back up the talk, that intangible thing goes into the negative range in a real hurry. We'll have to see, but I'm not sold on him yet as anything more than a decent bench player.

Are those the same GMs that called him "basketball illiterate?" Is that an intangible?

Basketball skills aren't intangible. When people talk about intangibles, they are talking about work ethic (on and off court), leadership skills, coachability, ability to play within a team concept. Things like that. Not shooting form or ballhandling skills. As for Oubre, he's a nice athlete who has a huge wingspan for his height. With the proper instruction and effort, he should be a strong wing defender. He has a pretty decent shot, but he needs a lot of work on his handle and unless he improves drastically he feels more like a slightly undersized 3 and D type than the star-level two guard a lot of people thought he could be coming out of high school. It's a nice pickup for the Wiz, but you're looking at something closer to Trevor Ariza than a star.

I loved Oubre's game coming out of HS and he definitely didn't live up to expectations but he Avg'd 9.3 ppg & 5 boards in 21mpg.. Those a are pretty good #'s, he also shot 35.8 from 3..

Not sure if if was said earlier, but Oubre seems like the "anti-Otto" to me. Otto does all of the little things it takes to win, all while being a humble, team first guy., Oubre is a self promoting McD All America who accomplished very little in college, yet declares he is the jewel of the draft, who will lead whomever drafts him, to the NBA championship. Other then being a graceful, athletic guy, there is little that stands out. Think this guy will be an absolute bust.

I don't think Oubre will be a complete bust, but I suspect some time in D league will build some humility into him and the light will come on. Two or three years of hard work and he's there. Question is this, is he willing to work to develope into more than a superior athlete who can dunk? Time will tell.
I saw at least a dozen of his games this past season and agree with Beenaround that little stands out other than the athletics.

Knowing that, I wouldn't have touched him.

Oubre is going to take some time but I like the pick long run with the pieces here. He is great in the open floor.

Now that we have established that Oubre is a 2-3, can't hold Otto's jock, and will be in the D-league shortly.
What do people think of the Pacer's moves? Drafting Myles Turner, David West leaving. Has anyone seen much of Turner? Will he and Roy be able to play together or is he Roy's replacement after next year?

Has anyone seen much of Turner? Will he and Roy be able to play together or is he Roy's replacement after next year? It's clear Bird wants Roy gone. And it appears they want to play small ball, with Turner being the 5 and running the floor. Sounds good, other than the fact that Turner has trouble running. Literally. Link to Article

Jonathan Wallace is on the Hornets summer league team.
If there's any roster he could stick to, the Hornets is it. Still I wonder how much of this is the fact that Ewing is the coach.

I say this with the greatest respect for one of my favorite Hoyas - when will it be time to bring Jonathan back as an assistant? Apparently ( and forgive me if someone posted this before), he has had decent run in Europe and still planned to attend law school as of last summer. I am not advocating that he leave basketball behind, I just want him to be part of the program as soon as he is ready.

AFAIK he is still playing in Germany for a top level team there. This move is probably a big push for one last shot at the NBA then he'll play out the next few years in Europe. That being said, Jonathan Wallace is one of the guys that I wouldn't be surprised to leave professional ball and begin on their life long career sooner rather then later.

Very curious where Greg M ends up. Was reading today that the most important thing for him is to "join a team that is one piece away from being a winner"..yet it looks like he may be joining the Knicks! Obviously I wish him success and all the money he can earn, but worry that NY is the kind of place where he will become the"whipping boy" when things inevitably go wrong. Might not be worth the money going there for him.
