Jerelle signed a 10 day deal with Utah.. If you told me 4 years ago that Benimon would play in the NBA, I would have laughed uncontrollably. Props to him for working hard to achieve a dream.

Pretty sure he never even got the 10 day deal with anyone. C Wright got into a couple of games with Dallas, and PE Jr even got into a playoff game for a minute or two. But do not think Austin has.

I remember when Benimon was getting pilloried on this board. One poster complained that he didn't have Big East caliber talent so I guess he's proven that guy right. Good luck to him.

I was not posting at the time (still hadn't figured out this internet thing), but Benimon did not look like a legit Big East contributor when he was here. He was an undersized, average athlete with a decent handle and passing skills. He did seem to have a nose for the ball. He obviously went to Towson and remade himself, both physically and skillwise. Benimon always reminded me of a less athletic, slightly more skilled, John Turner, who played alongside Alonzo for a year before transferring to a small school and playing in the league for a year or two. Any old timers remember him??

Any old timers remember him?? Benimon learned to shoot and stopped turning over the ball so much. It's a great testament to him and the staff at Towson. Perhaps it would have happened at GU; perhaps not. He could always rebound, defend and always had a great motor. I'm still kind of surprised he made the NBA -- he always had the tools, I suppose, if not great height. But while he carried Towson, he wasn't unbelievable or anything. Good for him.

Any old timers remember him?? Before my time I'm afraid. One further note: Benimon's contract is another affirmation of JTIII's and his staff's ability to evaluate talent. He was lightly recruited if I recall correctly. JTIII has been able to find a couple diamonds in the rough over the years which is what you hope for out of a good program. I suppose Tre Campbell wasn't really lightly recruited but I feel like he's going to exceed expectations as well.

Turner's run at Georgetown ended when he either could not or would jot end his association with Rayful Edmond. There are those who opined he was scapegoated for Zo's friendship with Edmond.
He was a powerful player who lacked finesse. That said, I doubt we lose to Xavier in 1990 if Turner is on that team.

Actually he was still a turnover machine at Towson averaging 3.9 and 3.4 turnovers a game in his two seasons there. What he did improve on was his strength becoming even stronger through weight training and gained a 3pt shot during his redshirt year after transferring. His athleticism is still subpar by NBA standards but his strength is elite so if he plays his cards right he can be a yeoman like big body who can be brought in to rebound.

And like Turner got some time in the NBA. Part of the small forward black hole years of Bell, Tate-Venson and Tucker...
