A quarter-billion is a lot of money; may he earn every penny of it.
This is truly insane. I have a number of reactions to this, admittedly colored by my personal biases:
1. As a Cardinal fan, I wanted Pujols to stay with the Cardinals. But I can hardly blame them for not matching this. They certainly have the flexibility now to go in another direction. The Cardinals have regularly demonstrated that they will do what is necessary to remain competitive, and I'm sure that will continue.
2. I'll be looking forward to seeing a lot of Pujols on the tube.
3. The sale of the Dodgers can't happen fast enough. While they're looking under rocks to find players, their local rival pulls off the coup of the year. McBroke should rot in hell. A disgrace to Hoyas everywhere.
4. Talk about going all in to win now - I'm sure Arte Moreno realizes that this contract will be a killer toward the end of its run, but it will be well worth it if the Angels can win two or three World Series along the way. I wonder if they're still interested in adding Wilson to the rotation.
