Is it a big deal? They likely never play together if Zimmerman follows the typical one year pattern most top ten recruits follow. UNLV hasn't been able to capitalize on any of their marquee recruits in translating that into wins and a higher profile. Rice also has a terrible rep for developing players.

NWG just might like Vegas. He was there for 4 years at Findlay Prep and probably still has a lot of friends and relationships in the area.

Zimmerman looks like at least a 2-year guy to me. May consider himself one and done, but I'm guessing he's there at least 2 years.
A 2016-2017 UNLV team built around NWG and Zimmerman is a preseason top 15 squad.

The assistant coach, Todd Simon spent 7 years at Findlay Prep and was head coach in 2012-2013 at Findlay. UNLV also has two players in the current roster from Findlay.
Those type of relationship cannot be discounted when an athlete is choosing schools.

On the plus side for Georgetown, Anton Gill has those types of relationships with Isaac Copeland and Akoy Agau, so those types of relationships could also help us out.

It truly amazes me that any good recruit goes to UNLV anymore. Dave Rice has taken squads laden with 5 star players and done absolutely nothing with them in terms of wins or NBA development. Even JT3 and Jay Wright could take those teams to a Sweet 16 for crying out loud and they'd be a heck of a lot better in the NBA (at least for JT3).

Anthony Bennett got taken number one even though he's awful and might be out of the league in a few years. So I guess that's a feather in Rice's cap?

That's some sort of wizardrey by Rice.

I would hope it wouldn't take those type of connections to "get" a castoff transfer like Anton Gill ahead of programs such as East Carolina, Nebraska, and Providence.

Ron Bailey wrote on HoyaReport that Nigel has known DSR since 7th Grade and met Reggie Cameron "during the Nike Youth Jamboree" when each was a freshman. Nigel has already reached out to them to get the skinny on GU. A subscription may be required to access the article, but here's the link: georgetown.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1757024&PT=4&PR=2

Seems like more acquaintances. And even if they were close they would never get to play with each other since NWG has to sit out and DSR has to leave after his senior year. Issac and Anton Gill are best friends, who both played at Hargraves Academy and both of their dads are best friends and teammates from East Carolina. Potentially they could play together if Copeland decided to come back for his junior year to play with his buddy.

From the article, it sounded as though Nigel knows DSR pretty darn well -- well enough to pick up the phone and call him. You know, all these elite kids end up playing at lots of EYBL and other AAU events over the years. Moreover, Nigel would have a pal at GU right off the bat, and they'd be practicing as part of the same team for NWG's entire first year at GU. By no means was I suggesting their friendship makes us a slam dunk. It does give us a better chance than we'd have with a kid who didn't know anyone. Nigel could also get some inside info on how JT3 works with Guards, how much opportunity they have to flourish, the talent on the team, the stability of the program, the kids coming in, the lifestyle at GU and DC, and how often the Hoya Hoops alumni return to campus to school the kids. Not every team in the USA has alums like Greg, Otto, Jeff, Roy and others returning each summer to work with the current team. That is a Hoya tradition dating back decades. We have no idea how NWG is going to make his decision, but he has put on his short list so at least we have a chance. And his relationships with DSR and Reggie could turn out to be very valuable.

Goss has said in a few interviews he wants to go to a program that is set up to win now..
UNLV, Texas or Providence can't meet that criteria the way G'town can.. Even if Ike blows up and leaves early the roster will still be in great shape for 2016-17..
Not to mention he'll get much more exposure at G'town than he would at UNLV..

Fwiw… Posted a couple days ago.. Well, since Virtual Rebel has a total of 61 followers, it must be true. I think I'll wait for a more reputable source before making any assumption as to where NWG is headed, one way or another.

Of course it means nothing until he announces. Dave Rice sure can recruit even though his coaching is (insert better word here)

Haha true but other (More National guys) have said similar things I mean it isn't a stretch. Home town school. His HS coach is an assistant. They seem to land all these elite recruits even though Rice just completely wasted all that talent.
