There's more to athleticism than dunking in traffic. As SFHoya said, his stats suggest a good athlete. He rebounds very well for his position, gets steals, gets blocks, shoots a pretty good percentage in the paint. His profile is that of a guy with NBA athleticism. I have no idea what his vertical leap is, but he sure looks like a future NBA wing to me.
Monroe is similar insofar as he's not a huge leaper but he's actually a sneaky good athlete to go along with his high skill level.

Otto still has a ways to go before considering taking the next step, but if there is one thing for certain he's going to work as hard as he can to get to that point. I've already noticed a few things he has improved over the past year that he needed to address.
First and foremost is his strength and size. That is the one area I thought would hinder him his first year if he wasn't able to address it. Even though he is still pretty thin compared to a lot of the guys he has to go against in the low post, he's put on a good 10 solid pounds since he has been at Georgetown. While he may not be able to move guys like Kevin Jones or Melo off the blocks, he is now strong enough to be able to bang with them going for rebounds.
Another thing that he's gotten better at is the way he moves defensively on-the-ball. This is something that has actually occurred during the season. If you recall there were many times at the beginning of the year when a ball handler would make a move and Otto would get blown by like he wasn't there. A big part of that had to do with his poor footwork. Instead of staying low and sliding with his man, he would instinctively come out of his defensive stance and cross his feet trying to get back in position. As the year has gone on, he has been staying down lower, sliding instead of crossing his feet, and utilizing his length to frustrate his man.
There are other holes in his game that he is going to have to address as time goes on, especially on the offensive end. He needs to become much more consistent behind the arc, add a few back to the basket low post moves for when he's guarded by a smaller player, and become more confident at attacking from the perimeter when given the opportunity. He's going to need to do this all while continuing to work hard in the weight room (and lunch room).

Otto is more athletic than he looks at first blush. When the whole "is it crazy to think that Whittington has the most upside" discussion went on, my first thought was "of course he has the most upside - 6'9", athletic, could possible defend 2s in the pros and definitely 3s." But I also thought about how quick Otto is defensively. He doesn't have the handle yet and he's not an NBA-level freak, but because he's so well rounded it's harder to notice his overall level of athleticism. But he defends people on the perimeter very well. He plays the top of the zone a ton -- so he's helping on guards a lot. He jumps well enough to be a strong rebounder and he gets a ton of steals, so he's quick in the passing lane (steals tend to be one of the best indicators of a strong NBA player -- even bigs). Yeah I’m not saying that would be the sole reason he would not be a high prospect right now, but if he had that the scouts would definitely overlook some of his flaws. He’s a player right now who does everything good but nothing great, or at an Nba level except for rebound relative to his position. I mean he projects as a professional player no doubt, but he still has work to do before he even considers that step IMO

Again, Otto was solid vs. MU. On the offensive end, those mid-range jumpers were almost automatic and will cause nightmares for BE coaches the rest of his college career. But, I want to point out the two bank shots he took from about 3 to 5 ft from the basket. That's playing it smart; that's high bball I.Q.; that's getting the highest percentage shot. Instead of trying to finesse it (Henry), lay it on the rim through traffic (Henry, GW, Nate, etc...) or pass it out from there (Nate), Otto smartly used the bank and it worked. It will work almost every time if you hit it!!! As someone pointed out, Nate passed on open opportunities from 5 feet in. Instead of passing, go up and hit the bank (see how I use the word hit and not shoot). This could be your bread & butter. Heck, Nate could use it from the FT line. It's easier to aim and hit the bank instead of swishing it from there.
Nate, Henry and GW, learn from Otto and you'll be better and smarter offensive players.

Flat out disgrace that he did not make big east all rookie team. must be some great big east freshmen this year for that to happen More like a year in which there is a void of really talented upperclassmen. Therefore freshmen on some good teams and even more on some bad teams, have a chance to start and put up high numbers as a a result of volume shooting. Look at the shooting percentage of Grant from Notre Dame. To average the points he did he must have been chucking the ball every game. But don't worry. Otto will be better in the end than almost all (if not all) of the guys picked for the rookie team.

He already is better than almost all of them. I guess the coaches around the league don't appreciate guys who make the right decisions, put the team first and do the dirty work.

This is why i love all the freshman. They all work and want to get better. The knock on both Whitt and Hopkins was that both would coast at times. I see none of that. To me, all the frosh have bought in and worked their tails off. It's clear that they push each other. Bodes well for the future.
