You are going to have to do better than that austin. Most sensible violent crimes have been considered such going back to an age where there was nothing but religious authority. Does that mean all crimes anyone thought of in the pre-secular age would be perfectly legal in a secular world where there was no flock of child-raping priests to tell them murder was bad? Does that mean religion gets to claim all of the no-brainer low hanging fruit? Because they had a monopoly on laws for the first 4 or 5 thousand years of written history before secularism was allowed to peak its head out without being chopped off by the religious powers that be? Do you honestly think i implied that all laws with any religious background could not ipso facto also be considered to be crimes in a secular society? Were not talking about crimes like rape and murder or charging interest for that matter....were talking about laws that dont involve actual victims and where the religious underpinnings form the entire rationale for the entire basis for there presence in a secular republic that has no use for them. But by all means, keep fighting the bigot's argument if you like.... I was just pointing out that there are some obvious flaws in your rhetoric, particularly including the fact that modern libertarianism was born well after the invention of legal codes and the writing of the United States Constitution. You continually suggest that libertarian ideology creates some sort of actual curb on federal, state, and local government authority, when in fact it creates none. It is just another idea, equal to Ed's ideas, when it comes to our democratic (fine, republican) political system. However, you seem to react poorly whenever any person refuses to wholly adopt your ideologically puritanical viewpoint. I am merely defending Ed's right to disagree with you, because you're succeeding, amazingly, in making him look like the victim here. So you're cool with polygamy/polyandry, right? No victims there. Just checking.

If you don't have the stomach to see someone's simple minded and in my opinion bigoted post, launching a thread fully intended to provoke reaction, without feeling sad that he got what he was looking for, then by all means flip sides and join the side of the homophobes who equate child rape with homosexuality. Oh I'm sorry was i not allowed to call that spade a spade? Is it OK to say millions of gay people don't have a right to be themselves because "god's law" trumps actual US law, but its not OK to be offended by that 13th century nonsense, is it?
Its not like you are doing us any good if you are that sensitive about defending the modern secular state from those that miss the days of clerical authority in civic matters. Good luck with that. I hope nobody plays rough over there and further upsets your delicate sensibilities and challenges those slippery principles again.
You can politely disagree about the expansion of the commerce clause or tax reform or whether chocolate is better than vanilla (it is not.) But I'm not sure how to politely disagree with someone who says they know god's laws and you have to live by them even though you find them highly bigoted and don't even believe in a god because they say they trump actual US law. That offends me to the core and I won't be shy about saying so.

Let's get back on topic, shall we? Ed stated that because of us young folk, child rape would be legalized. I'm still waiting for Ed to defend that statement or even provide a plausible mechanism for it occurring. Otherwise, I think I'm pretty justified in thinking that Ed decided to wantonly smear the younger members of the board as sympathetic to kiddie rape. I believe such libel is cause enough to ban him from this board absent an immediate apology. Bando, I don't follow your logic or thought process. I made a prediction that, in the lifetime of some members of this board, sex with youth would become acceptable as an alternate lifestyle. You may disagree with my prediction but I fail to see how that is smearing the younger generation. Additionally, I have said that, in my lifetime, I have seen things which were unheard of when I was a youth, become commonplace today and I have the advantage of a perspective you younger people do not have, gained through living through monumental changes. Does that mean I'm infallible in my predictions? Of course not. Forty or fifty years from now, after I'm long gone, if sex with youth is an acceptable way of life, recall that some crazy guy named Easy Ed said "I told you so". And, if it does not occur, feel free to say "I remember some nut who said it would happen".

I would really like to stand outside a closed liquor store with you on a Sunday and watch your head explode. Perhaps we can walk over to the Full Tilt Poker offices and you can scream at the windows. What else could we do on thebin's Rage Parade?

You're all applesauce and horsefeathers! Stop being such a Mrs Grundy and giving us all the high hat! You're beating your gums about a lot of baloney and not giving us any reasons for being all bluenose! 23 Skiddoo!

You have yet to explain this prediction at all. How would this happen? What exactly is making you think the trend is going in that way? Any explanation at all would help me not to think that you just threw this out there to troll everyone.
Considering that you're saying it would happen on my generation's watch, I think I'm pretty justified in stating you think it's our fault.

I don't think any of us ever said that there aren't sick, stupid people who want to do sick, stupid things. I urge you to post when one of these groups succeeds in getting legislation passed.

At the time I enrolled at Georgetown, the same statement "I urge you..." could have been made about abortion. And, guess what, no legislation was passed - the courts decided.

So you're argument is "things changed since I've been born, therefore child rape will be legalized". I'm sorry, but your premises do not support your conclusions, and as a Georgetown graduate you should know basic logic. You're engaging in idle speculation in bad faith. I might as well say "the internet was invented, therefore I predict unicorn horns will become the official currency of the United States".

So what percentage of the population supported abortion rights when you enrolled at gtown? Something tells me it was just a little bit more (just a little) than the percentage that support legalized pedophilia now (or ever)...

This is a stupid, pointless thread. You disagree with the court's decision on abortion, and you disagree with some courts' decisions on gay rights. Thus, your absolutely pulled out of your you know what prediction that "courts" will soon be legalizing child rape is valid? Because they've done other things you think they shouldn't have? You have ZERO backup for making this thread. There is ZERO indication that pedophilia is becoming less despised, let alone condoned. This is a disgusting, guilt by association thread that really has no point. Abortion in courts, gay rights in courts, the next logical step is clearly the legalization of pedophilia! Give me a break. Your archaic, bigoted social views are on the way out. You're on the wrong side of history.

Back when abortion and gay sex was illegal, and marital rape wasn't a crime in any state in the union. Those were good innocent times I tells you!
