In fairness to Syracuse University, what could it do as an institution if they never had any knowledge of wrongdoing (if there was wrongdoing)? It is hardly a Penn State fail to report/investigate situation even on the worst version of these preliminary facts (as to the university only).

If this does turn out to be true, I don't think Syracuse would classified as a school that didn't have any knowledge of the wrongdoing. Not as bad as Penn State, yet, though.

Well, they had knowledge of the allegations but no reason to believe them due to the lack of corroboration - at least from what little is reported right now. We'll hear more before too long, and the administrative leave thing is the right call. Get the parties out of the picture and put it under the microscope.

Sounds like you've been retained to defend Syracuse University. Careful, you'll have RDF on your case...

your head coach repeatedly sees a young boy in the bed of a grown man - how is that not mandatory reporting under the NY statute?

I'm sure RDF can speak for himself if he wants. I suspect I'll have you on my case in any event. Where did you learn to snoop into or joke about the ACR of people who you suspect are attorneys?

Remind me never to go back to that Marquette board.

Wait I'm confused. I thought everybody was an internet message board attorney.

In situations like this it's very rare that there were no signs or that more couldn't have been done, most people usually put their heads in the sand to avoid the ugly truth. If this turns out to be true there will be more victims, and if you want to believe that in 35 years of this going on there was no way Syracuse University knew about it, I have a bridge to sell you. At least Penn State had the good sense to have Sandusky retire. Again, IF this turns out to be true, Syracuse is going down with Fine.

I tend to think these kinds of things are serious, but maybe I'd feel differently if I did not have a relative who was a ball boy for SU Athletics during the relevant time period.

I've thought since the Sandusky story that this wouldn't be the last of it in terms of HS/college athletics. For what it's worth, big time athletics is inherently a great place to cover up terrible misdeeds: 1) there's way too much money going on for anyone to rock the boat and 2) there's an ethos against public disclosure.
For all the stuff I gripe at Boeheim for, I would be shocked if this story is true in regards to his involvement. He is whiny, he runs a stupid defense, and he might negatively recruit, but I've always thought of him as a pretty reasonable guy. That being said, I thought Paterno was a pretty great guy before this whole story.

Jimbo released a statement fully backing Fine so he definitely isn't distancing himself at this point.

Wow. That set of posts on the Marquette board are shameful. How ignorant. No joke: vcjack once texted several of us a photo of a poster inside the bathroom at the Bradley Center during a Georgetown/Marquette game. The ad's purpose was to warn men away from committing statutory rape. After glancing at that message board, it starts to make sense...

If you don't want to answer my question that's fine. Plus, don't act like you're not overly-serious about every single topic on every single board on here.

Jimbo released a statement fully backing Fine so he definitely isn't distancing himself at this point. More than that, he called the accuser a liar. That's definitely an interesting turn.

Did Boeheim have his Spanier unconditional support moment tonight?
