Great news about Memphis. A name basketball program that really isn't too good. I look forward to beating them almost every time out while they still add credibility to the conference.

Or, the biggest rivalry could be GU/St. John's, GU/UConn or GU/Nova if both teams are good. GU/Syracuse certainly wasn't a natural rivalry - it's just that both teams were good for an extended period of time, and thus a rivalry was born. You could say that Louisville/Memphis has history on its side, but so does GU/St. John's. Memphis Ville has about 40 years of tradition, they’re generally both really good, bordering states, and fan bases that aren’t particularily fond of each other. I understand what you’re trying to say but, all things equal right now I think that Memphis Ville is a bigger rivalry game than any we can muster with any team that is going to continue to be in the BE. Patino v. Pastner = mismatch. Pastner is going to have to pick his game up if Memphis is to be among the elite Big East teams. I'm happy to see Memphis in the conference for basketball purposes, and I hope that Pastner is up to it. If he is, Louisville/Memphis may well turn out to be the top conference rivalry. If not, then I think the top conference rivalry is tbd.

I think sometime people think to small. Schools like Kentucky would rather play on the big stage at MSG and all the media coverage; They always want the bright lights; schools like Clemson (for football) get tired of being the step childs. But you have to pursue and attack.

BE basketball is fine and getting better with the addition of Memphis. People are overlooking what is happening at Providence and Rutgers, as well. Additionally, I believe that USF is emerging and that Cincinnati will continue its strong play. I am not worried about the quality of basketball in the BE.
I totally disagree with the football additions of BSU and SDSU, because I believe these are temporary and desperate steps, certain to fail and ultimately lead to more changes down the road. BSU is clearly an upgrade for football, but their eventual departure from this conference is likely even now before it begins. Said the same thing about TCU.

My biggest issue is adding Houston and SMU as full members. Those bball programs stink and I am not a big fan of our guys having to play conference games in Texas. I guess it is what it is, I am just not excited about it. UCF is like USF and appears to be a school willing to invest so not much I can complain about there.

Memphis will drop into the middle of the pack and be an NIT team in the Big East. They never won the Conference USA title when Louisville, Cincinnati, and Marquette were in the league.

Nothing about SMU excites me, but why can't Houston be good again? Obviously they were good once (though not as good as the Hoyas!) and they are from a huge market. I'm not saying there aren't giant impediments to their being high quality, I might just not know what they are.

Sadly, we remain only 8-4 -- but at least Big East teams will now have "closed out" the Final Four in '85 afterall . . .

Hopefully, with exposure to the Big East and more recruiting markets, they can step up their level of competition. Right now, they are pretty bad. I am optimistic that Houston and UCF can improve. UCF isn't awful now (not as bad as Houston, at least).

Never going to happen. 1) We own Memphis, 10-2 all time 2) JT3 vs. Pastner is a complete coaching miss match. 3) Memphis is probably the best basketball addition we could make, but I don't ever see them winning a big east title. Obviously this could happen if Pastner improves or they're able to hire a better coach.

The mouthpiece of the University of Texas says West Virginia is officially gone after this year. (Wonder if Texas ponied up some of the $20 million?) Good riddance, of course. But does 7 football teams next year screw up BCS qualifications, etc? Any other problems here? texas.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1329729

This may have been covered somewhere but I'll ask again... what becomes of all these exit fees? Does GU get any of that $$$?
