Don't forget TNT, TBS, and truTV as a potential broadcasting group. Now that they're in the business of broadcasting tournament bb, they might want to do regular season bb and take a shot at college football as well.

I'm nervous that there have been no articles stating that the BE went through with their measure of raising the exit fees today like they said they were going to. If it did not happen today then the conference really is in trouble.
Missouri leaving isn't necessarily a terrible thing for the conference if they can show some unity and up the buy out. Not that it would keep anyone from leaving, but with the B12 possibly only adding 1 team it might not be that bad for the BE heck it might not be bad at all as the B12 may take BYU instead.

Lic -- In that article Dan linked it had this key line: all of the Big East’s 14 members still voted unanimously for the increased exit fee Monday night. That means WVU and L'ville voted for the increase. Of course, all dependent on AF and Navy joining. I say they do -- FB only. That starts the ball rolling. Getting Boise State would be a HUGE coup. DANThanks for keeping us all up to date. I will be SUPER impressed with Big East management (no matter who is involved out front or behind the scenes) if they pull this off. As posted earlier, IF they can shore up the conference, their financial outlook could suddenly brighten significantly. I am sure WVU, L'Ville and the others know that. This is getting really interesting. I'd still like to see a leading Basketball program like Memphis, Xavier or even Temple get in here. but, we are working in the right direction.

The most effective use of our time and money now would be to help BYU lobby to replace Missouri in the B12 (assuming the rumors are true)
And, as a bonus, let Boise State and Air Force replace them in the WAC for basketball and other sports.

Houston has the 16th best recruiting class for 2012 (according to ESPN). With some help from Big East exposure, I think they could only improve. Houston is also a top 25 team in football, which is a major improvement over Syracuse and Pittsburgh.
The key in the next few days will be retaining Louisville and West Virginia. If we lose those football and basketball programs, it's going to be a lot harder to keep things together.

The big anchor to this is the service academies, and they aren't going to join the Big 12 to replace Missouri. And ironically, the service academies are about the only colleges where it makes to join in these otherwise-nonsensical cross-country conference arrangements - they truly recruit nationally and need that sort of profile.
I understand Boise State as a kick save to keep the BCS bid. SMU and Houston are interesting in that they give the conference a presence in Texas, even if it is a very, very deep-in-second place presence, or even third as A & M dwarfs them both.
Completely unconcerned about the near term quality of basketball that any of these teams bring. I mean really. Nobody cares; worst case is the BE teams need to schedule better out of conference to make up for a slightly weaker bottom half. Ironically, Pitt and Syracuse (Cuse got better at it the last 2 years) were notorious for awful out of conference schedules.
This will be a great save.

I was getting optimistic about this whole thing until I saw Mizzou is leaving for the SEC in the next day or two, which would result in the B12 offering UL and WV. In some ways, I hope this happens soon just to end this farce and allow the Big East to dissolve as a football conference and move on already.

Has anyone other than Thamel written that Mizzou is leaving for the SEC? I haven't seen anything. At this point it's just one writer citing one source. There's been a lot of misinformation in the realignment saga, so I'm taking that story with a grain of salt for now.

Let's just see how it plays out.
1) Missouri hasn't left yet and it will at least be a year before they can actually leave.
2) The B12 seems to tend to want to stay at 10 members. I think it's Texas who pushes for this and they usually get their way. So the B12 may only just replace Missouri and won't necessarily go for 12. Remember the B12 lost money on the Title game and don't really care about having one.
3) We do not know who they will take. Maybe they invite a BE school, maybe they offer BYU or Boisie State.
4) We do not know for sure that a BE school would take the invite. Yes if the ACC, B1G, SEC, or PAC comes calling absolutely they're 99% gone. But the B12 is a different beast. Currently more stable than us. But long term not any more stable. The second the Pac 12 is ready to expand the league will be devastated. The SEC is taking two of their teams. What's to stop them from taking 2 more. Their share from the B12 would likely not be much higher if at all then what they will get from the new BE's media deal if we can make it to that point. Hopefully Louisville's public support of the BE will remain strong.
