Man it felt good to see hockey on TV again. It's been way too long, and after that terrible offseason it's good to finally get back to the games.

Oh look, Mike Milbury has a tool!
We calmly grabbed our free beers and sauntered out. To add to the fun, we made T shirts that read "thanks for the memories... of kicking your AS#!" on the back along with a picture of a hand crushing an orange which we calmly unveiled in the final few minutes so the thousands of Cuse fans sitting behind us could enjoy. May have been the perfect day.--DaymondMyles
Evgeni Malkin is so freaking good. Sorry Caps fans, but it's true.
Philly finally found themselves a good goalie & will be really dangerous with Bryzgalov in net. I doubt Jagr lasts the whole season, but it must be truckloads of fun for him skating on the line with Giroux and JVR. Two great young players that he can just set up and set up and set up.
As bummed as I am that Boston lost the opener, Giroux's goal and the feed pass from Jagr were simply brilliant. (well, also bad defense, but still).
Haven't bought my Center Ice package yet this year & was curious if anyone out there has bought NHL GameCenter.
If seems like it's basically the same thing, but I would watch GameCenter off of my Apple TV and not off of cable.
Mainly, my question is, if anyone uses GameCenter, are there more games in HD on that than on Center Ice?
That's really my only complaint about Center Ice, is that they don't show enough of the games in HD. I am fairly certain most of the local broadcasts ARE available in HD, but they don't pick up those feeds a lot, it seems.
GameCenter could also travel with me on my phone where wifi is available, of course, which might be another big advantage.
Anyway, will probably decide in the next couple weeks, but if anyone has any insight, let me know.

I don't really have a problem with it. Wouldn't mind just dumping Phoenix and Columbus (or, better, Florida and move Columbus to Boston's conference) so they're all seven-team conferences, but I realize that'll never happen. Much more likely that two expansion teams would be added to make them all eight-team conferences.
I'm not sure I like the playoff format though. I think it is too homogenized.
However, if realignment will mean that Boston won't have to fly 3,000 miles to play a game at Winnipeg the very next day after whupping on the Pittsburgh Sidney Crosby's, I'm all for that.
Seriously, I know Boston is the hottest team in the league, but that's just downright unfair.

Now you know why all the teams in the West voted for realignment. It will result in easier travel for them (though more for the eastern teams) and will avoid some of the trips they generally faced in the past similar to the trip Boston just had to make.
I like the changes in the realignment, and even the divisional playoffs, but I especially like the fact the league is going to a system where teams have at least one home game against every other team in the league.
To answer your earlier question, I have the GameCentre Live. I generally only use it when I travel, but its great. I believe (but am not sure) that you get the best feed available (ie, HD). You also get your choice of which team's broadcast, which is great. If you can hook up your feed to your TV at home, I recommend it even over CentreIce.
I'm a fan of the realignment. The playoff matchups may get repetitive, but sometimes repetitive = hate, and I'm a fan of that.
Now all they need to do is give these new 'conferences' some proper names and trophies.

As a fan of an Atlantic Division team (Rangers), I don't have any complaints about this, as all the teams I love to hate will stay in the same division as my team. I'm actually pretty indifferent about the new play every team home and home format. It never really bothered me that that wasn't already the case, but that may be because I'm a baseball fan and not playing half the league seems natural to me.
I also never really spent too much time thinking about the concentration of teams in the Eastern time zone. Detroit is on EST, and in the Western conference!
Your meatloaf is mushy, your salmon croquettes are oily and your eggplant parmesan is a disgrace to this house!
Not surprised the blue shirts were one of the four teams to vote against the realignment plan, but I'm surprised Tampa voted against it. You have to think more home games against Montreal, Toronto, and Boston - - as opposed to Carolina and Atlanta, for example - - will do wonders for their attendance numbers.
I wonder who the other two teams to vote against the plan were. Must have been two other eastern conference teams, maybe the Caps, Isles, Devils, Habs or Sens? I have no idea.
Best bit starts 1:20 in. Listen to what Ilya has to say, then go back and watch Laviolette's deadpan.

I'm not as up on Hockey as I am on Basketball, so can someone please explain to me what's wrong with the Caps? So many big loses (Like 5-1). Can't score and can't defend. It seems like the league has figured out ovechkin and he hasn't adapted. Team looks great on paper but on the ice has been terrible. They started out great but have been terrible with out green, but I can't imagine 1 player making that big of a difference. What's going on? What can they do?

Zero discipline, particularly on defense. They are about as sloppy in their own end as you can get.
I don't know if Dale Hunter is really what they need. They really needed more of a Mike Keenan type.
And I can't believe I just wrote that.

1. It's not just that Ovechkin's offensive moves have been figured out and he hasn't adapted - it's that his overall play has often been lackadaisical, uninspired, and listless this year. You can't have that from your Captain/Superstar. It's dragging the whole team down.
2. Mike Green is really the glue-guy of the defense, not just when he's on the ice but overall. He's been out with a "slight groin tear" since November 11, but looks to be coming back sometime soon.

I know I'm a bit late on this one...but i feel a rant or two coming up...The time for Standard Def television is OVER. No More. I have no sympathy whatsoever for people who don't have HD by now, this change has been about 20 years in the making. Why is my NBC HD all the way on channel #504? No....put the standard def NBC on 504, and HD is now on just 4. HD is now the new normal. Let's call "standard def" something else....B&W maybe?
In similar news...if you live between DC and Boston and you don't have EZ pass....you are now banned from all highways. That's it, you're done. Get off. And those of you with EZ passes who refuse to tape them to your winshield, I reserve the right to plow right into you while you are fishing it out of the glove compartment causing more traffic than the mouth breathers paying with bearer bonds and/or gold specie. Finally....if anyone actually obeys the absurdly low posted speed limits in the ez pass lanes, there is a good chance they are going to start a 40-car pile up. 20MPH at a minimum, preferably 30.
