Since Pitt and 'Cuse has definitely left and others are clearly on their way to leaving, (L'Ville, Rutgers WVU, etc.) the thought is that there will be a league comprised of the non-football school or schools with FCS football. So what are your thoughts on a league with gtown, nova, st. john's, seton hall, marquette, depaul, and adding the likes of say butler, and others?

I have a strange suspicion that Ranch Dressing may approve of the idea

new word is that the football schools such as Rutgers, WVU, Cincinnati, etc. will join up with the Big 12 teams that can't fit into the Pac 12 or SEC which will leave the non-football and FCS big east schools getting together and forming a basketball only conference of about 10 teams...nothing is official or even close obviously

Welcome to the board...a couple of things:
1) Check out some of the other threads, everything you have said has been discussed over and over.
2) Even if we do form a BBall primary league...in no way should it ever be called the "Catholic" League. Only that we should do that is if the Vatican will back the conference and build new on-campus facilities for every program. If we still have the rights at the end of this, the league will remain the Big East, if not, I hope we come up with something better then the "Catholic" League or Atlantic-10.

You're gonna let a bunch of godless heathens in the league? And mid major non-football godless heathens at that? What kind of league is this?

If were talking purely basketball, Butler is anything but mid-major

I've said this before, but it bears repeating: a CYO league will be the beginning of the end of any major college basketball at Georgetown.
With less TV revenue and declining local interest, Georgetown basketball will resemble that of Holy Cross.

If we don't get invited to the Big 12, what other option do we have? Also, Clutter Police, arrest this man.

Without substantive TV revenues revenues and declining local interest, basketball could go the way of Georgetown football. But here's what I don't understand: How does Xavier stay good? And if they can do it in a crummy A10, why can't we it with Xavier lots of good BE schools? It will be harder than it was with the BE, but I don't think success is by any means impossible.

you can call them mid major but the fact is they went to back to back national championships...I'd say they wouldn't be the worst addition if that's what it came to

Do you really want to be Xavier?
They may be good but this program currently needs to consider ways to stay closer to elite.

With less TV revenue and declining local interest, Georgetown basketball will resemble that of Holy Cross. But not overnight. As RBHoya has pointed out in many threads, on Day 1 the all basketball Big East/CYO would be the preeminent mid major conference in America. It would only be after many years of futility would we look anything like non-scholarship Holy Cross. Again, the focus should be on preserving a BCS league but Holy Cross is not our floor. A school like St. Joes is.

With less TV revenue and declining local interest, Georgetown basketball will resemble that of Holy Cross. Could you elaborate why this is the case? I am not sure I have seen you articulate it. I figure that it has something to do with the university not committing itself to the team. It has been said before, but what is the alternative?

Because we don't own our home court, we rent. Xavier owns an on campus home court. If that's the only difference, I don't see why we can't be just as good or better. I want an on-campus home, but that can't be the key to their success. Plus it does cost a lot to own and run an arena.
