Sorry, Hometown. Three No. 1's and a two for RGIII. Stiff price, big gamble. Payton was never coming to the 'Skins. They are too far from the Bowl, and the Eli factor.

And Dan Snyder once again demonstrates why he should sell the team.

And Dan Snyder once again demonstrates why he should sell the team. Why? Oh, I forgot that the Skins have such a history of stud QB's.

If RGIII is as good as people seem to think, I don't think the Redskins made a bad trade. You can't be successful in the NFL without a star QB, and those aren't available very often, except in the draft. Also, thinking about it, its pretty rare to get a good QB outside of the draft. Brees was a free agent, but that was b/c he hurt his shoulder. The Vikings got 1 good year out of Favre (same with the Jets before Favre hurt his shoulder). The Bears got Cutler in a trade, but that cost them two 1st round picks, so it wasn't that much cheaper. I guess Matt Schaub only cost the Texans two 2nd round picks. Basically, it seems like if the 'Skins think RGIII is a franchise/All Pro quarterback, they've now got him locked up for as long as they want. And it's a lot easier to build an offensive line or get skill position players via free agency or later draft picks than it is to get a franchise quarterback.

If I recall correctly the Skins also gave up two first round picks for Jason Campbell.
These three first round picks could have provided the offensive linemen needed to prevent any Skins QB from being killed. A franchise QB is useless unless the line can protect him and, in the case of the Skins, they have demonstrated over the years that they can't.

The Pats and Colts haven't had a bunch of hogs on the OL the past decade, and Peyton and Brady did ok. OTOH, you put Beck of Sexy Rexy behind a great offensive line, and you still don't win.

Alex Smith should negotiate the best deal he can with Miami, then make SF pay up, if he can.

Who negotiates the Drew Brees contract? His agent and about 29 other NFL general managers.

Smart move by the Jets.
...If by "smart," I mean "mind-boggling."
Why do this after giving Sanchez a contract extension? Wait, I need to back up. Why did they give Sanchez a contract extension???
Should be a fun season in NY. One less team for New England to have to worry about, I guess.
As for your Saints, hoyainspirit, look, I like them. I like the city, I like the team, I like a lot of the players, I like Payton.
But you might want to start coming to terms with the fact that this is likely going to get worse before it gets better.
I am a lot less HORRIFIED, OMG, OMG!!!!!! by what happened under Williams than a lot of people are, but still this is the kind of thing that can potentially blow up a franchise.
And Brees wasn't too happy to be franchised in the first place.
I hope they can come back somewhat intact and remain a strong franchise for many years, but I am not so sure about that. We'll see I guess. I hope I'm wrong.
