I think there's an argument out there that the NCAA's are no sure thing for this season (Georgetown will be a 10th or 11th in the BE pre-season), and this schedule does them no favors in March.
RPI, 2010-11:
1- vs Kansas 40-Memphis 59-at Alabama ---------------- 127-American 137-IUPUI ---------------- 283-Savannah St. 315-NJIT 316-UNC-Greensboro 332-Howard ------------- NA-Chaminade (if GU loses to Kansas at Maui)

Really hate our schedule, especially as an out-of-town season ticket holder who was planning on coming in for a lot of game.

I like JT3's adjustment from previous top SOS schedules. If there's a season to have NJIT on the schedule, it's this one. I like that we play two cupcake games before Maui/Kansas.

Plus, with an EXTREMELY inexperienced roster going into this season, I have no problem with this approach to OOC scheduling.

At the Hoya Hoop donor dinner last year JT III indicated that after Maui, non-SEC/BE game and Memphis there would be an easier home schedule. And he had reasons, given Maui and youth of team. Still not bad compared to longer traditional schedules; problem for RPI is two local games and other home games to balance road Alabama, home Memphis and Maui.

I understand the rationale with how brutal Maui is going to be, but I don't like the feeling I am getting as a season ticket holder that we have four sub-275 games, 3 of which are sub 300 RPI. Not everyone can up and go to Maui to see good OOC basketball. Not everyone can go to China in the middle of the summer. Throw in the ridiculous, "Jump the Line" charges this year for season tickets and I have a bad taste in my mouth. Three sub-300? Really?

Ultra hard schedule with resulting high RPI has obviously not led to tournament success over the last few years. I, for one, am glad to see a more balanced approach for this season. Get the young team some confidence, reduce the wear and tear of a long and stressful season and maybe we can go into March with fresh legs and we can make some noise.

I like our schedule in and out this year. No killer stretches during the BE (although a 3 day turn-around from USF to SUcks, NY is touch). As much as I understand people's frustrations at the OOC, JTIII's job isn't to entertain the alumni, it is to win basketball games and get his team better. Would I have liked another top team rather then 3 300RPI's? Of course, but this will get PT for our end of the bench players and strengthen our team from top to bottom. If our OOC is too tough, then only our top 6-7 players get time and that bites us in the ass.

I get that it is a bit of a head-shaker when you look at those individual games. I try to look at it as paying for the 9-game Big East season, a couple of local games (Howard and American) and one tough OOC (Memphis). Savannah State is for Horace Broadnax, UNC-Greensboro is for the Maui tournament organizers. IUPUI is not ranked so badly (137), and NJIT is well (if you are so inclined) a chance to give your tickets to someone who might not otherwise see a game.

Also, keep in mind the Maui field...if we beat Kansas we will be playing another excellent team.

yeah really not a bad schedule and very favorable for making the tournament. also last year's rpi is last years. so it will change. memphis and alabama for sure will be better this year. who knows how many 300+ ri teams we will have in the end several could easily sneak into the 200s. the schedule is great for the team. enough easy games to rack up wins and enough big games to get some quality wins. i see 20 wins on the schdule and an ncaa berth. at worst 16-13 and NIT.

Even if we play Chaminade, two out of three games will be expected to be challenging.
