Lunardi did an article on the weakest OOC schedulers but at the bottom included the 10 hardest scheduling schools. insider.espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/blog?name=ncbexperts&id=6708588Top 10: SCHOOL (4-year Average Rank) 2011 2010 2009 2008 Tennessee 19.50 3 71 1 3 Georgetown 33.50 2 4 7 121 Arizona 36.75 46 20 77 4 Duke 44.50 47 42 50 39 Michigan State 47.50 17 105 22 46 Connecticut 52.00 38 6 105 59 Syracuse 52.00 126 34 28 20 Michigan 55.75 52 103 53 15 Wisconsin 59.00 111 29 42 54 Pitt (t-10th) 61.50 94 47 15 90 West Virginia 61.50 4 26 60 156 Arizona 36.75 46 20 77 4 Duke 44.50 47 42 50 39 Michigan State 47.50 17 105 22 46 Connecticut 52.00 38 6 105 59 Syracuse 52.00 126 34 28 20 Michigan 55.75 52 103 53 15 Wisconsin 59.00 111 29 42 54 Pitt (t-10th) 61.50 94 47 15 90 West Virginia 61.50 4 26 60 156 If not for 2008 our average would look much different. Shaping up to be another tough OOC year this year again.

Interesting that 5 are from the big east. Especially since the BE is easily the hardest in conference schedule.

I hate it when analysts focus on OOC scheduling. I understand that OOC scheduling is the only part that a school has any control over, but for the sake of comparison, it overvalues OOC over in-conference sceduling. Lunardi makes the point that BCS schools are the worst schedulers, without even noting that there are good reasons for it: 1. A Big East school will never schedule another Big East school in its OOC schedule, while a non-BCS school is free to schedule any one in the BCS; 2. BCS schools don't need to schedule each other as much, because their in-conference schedule is already much harder than others.
I'm sick of someone arguing that some small school "deserves" to be in the tourney over a BCS school because of the relative strength of their OOC schedules.

So we definitely have the maui tourney and the @bama game for the sec invitational. We also get return trips from Memphis and Mizzou right? Maui has the following teams listed: Us, Duke, Kansas, Memphis, Michigan, Tennessee, UCLA, Chaminade. The staff has got to be looking for solid mid majors to fill out the rest of the ooc before adding the usual bottom feeders. For fun here's the scheduling board: bti.sportshd.com/mens_schedule_board

No return trip from Missouri was a one off "neutral site" game

The only OOC games that matter to me is the NCAA tourney.

So we've had the hardest overall schedule in the country on a cumulative basis the past four years. No way Tennessee had a harder overall schedule when you factor in how much better the Big East has been over the SEC in that time span.

So we've had a hard OCC schedule, we still can't get a NCAA tourney win, mid-majors kill us. So schedule mid-majors, not big time programs

It's not like all midmajors kill us. Just certain kinds.
Basically 2 out of the 3 horrible early tournament upsets really weren't that bad in retrospect. Davidson and VCU were cinderella teams that did a lot of damage in the tournament. I don't really feel too bad about those. Only the ohio loss is a stinker. The other two looked a lot worse at the time, but now really weren't bad losses. Sure maybe we should have won, but those teams were clearly very good and not just crappy midmajors who we had no business losing to.

The most frustrating thing is that Ohio was a crappy midmajor who we had no business losing to, and we did so in a wide open year where we had the legitimate talent for a deep deep run into the tournament. If the team from literally a week before the NCAAs had shown up, who knows where we would've ended up.

My only quibble with this is that, just as we played miserably in the games without Chris, we played miserably in this game even with Chris back. Given the roll that VCU was on, we might have played well and still lost, but we didn't play well. It was another stinkbomb performance, and therefore the game still leaves a bad taste in my mouth, despite what proved to be the quality of the opponent.

Chris did not play well against VCU - he clearly was not playing anywhere near the level he had been playing at during the winning streak prior to his injury against Cinci. He probably should not have been playing at all, but he is a tough kid who wanted to end his college career on the court. So no sour taste in my mouth for the VCU loss, beyond the disappointment in our utter inability to play even half decent basketball without Chris (except for a fairly brief second half stretch in the syracuse game)

Wasn't blaming Chris - it was entirely a team thing. The fact that he even made it back on the court was a tribute to his determination. We all would have liked for Chris to come back and go for 20 with 10 dimes, but that wasn't a realistic expectation.

NBA released their schedule today. NHL schedule has already been released as well. Getting closer to having a full schedule now.
