What about his circumstances suggests he wouldn't have to sit out a year?

Same circumstance as Julian and the kid that left Dukkke for Mempi$$ What about his circumstances suggests he wouldn't have to sit out a year?

He mentions his grandmother. I don't know if that's sufficient or not to get a waiver, but I imagine he'll try wherever he ends up.
He would definitely help us at point guard (just about anyone would). He's not really my cup of tea as a player - small, can't rebound at all, volume shooter, doesn't show great PG instincts. But he can bring the ball up and he seems like a tough kid. Bottom line, I'd take him for next season, but if he's not eligible until 2012-13, I'm not so sure he helps us.

Julian was allowed to play immediately because there was a family medical situation. This article does not mention one, unless the reference to being closer to his grandmother is due to health issues.

and even still don't think DC is close enough to NYC for that excuse to work. Sure it's a heck of a lot closer that Arizona, but if you're transferring "to be closer to a sick relative" you should probably be at worst 2 hours away in my opinion.

From that article...
"I would like to thank my coaches, my teammates and all of the U of A fans for making my two years at Arizona very special," Jones said in a statement. "After much thought, I have decided to pursue my goals at a school closer to home. My desire to be closer to my family, and in particular my grandmother, is the reason I am transferring. I want it to be known that I love this program, my coaches and teammates. I appreciate everyone for supporting me through this tough time."
The last sentence makes it seem like he is going through a tough time/has a good reason to leave other than the fact that Arizona just picked up a really talented PG and needed to clear the schollie limit.

"Anyone would help us at point guard"
Really? Momo isn't a better player than Markel. Why are we so quick to throw our own kids under the bus?

We have one point guard who played 8 minutes a game shakily and another guy who has pretty much proven he doesn't have the handle or decision making abilities to play the position. If Markel sprains an ankle, we're going to have Jabril Trawick or Aaron Bowen bringing the ball up sometimes. If that doesn't fill you with fear and loathing, I don't know what to tell you.
You try to get multiple good players at a position and start the best one. That's not throwing players under the bus. I don't think Momo is all that good, honestly, so I'm not too excited about this idea, but he definitely would help us next year given the sorry state of our back court depth chart.
He's not coming, so this is all academic.

Mo Mo is not a better player than Markel. Don't let the playing time fool you. There's a reason he's transferring and it has nothing to do with his grandmother. It's because he isn't better than the cats coming in

True indeed god! But Mo Mo has shown more than Starky Love up until this punto. Mo Mo is not a better player than Markel. Don't let the playing time fool you. There's a reason he's transferring and it has nothing to do with his grandmother. It's because he isn't better than the cats coming in

why would aaron or Jabril bringing the ball up fill you with fear and loathing. You've never seen them play and certainly have no idea how well they could handle the point guard position. I suppose it is rational to fear the unknown. But still. I trust Markel will be more than adequate at the point and that between Jason, Jabril and Aaron we'll have an adequate back up.

Transferring to SJU according to Jeff Goodman/Lenn Robbins. He's planning on applying for the hardship waiver to try and play next year.
"New York Post's Lenn Robbins is reporting that MoMo Jones is heading to St. John's and will apply for transfer waiver to play immediately."

Could help us with Kyle Anderson. Especially if he doesn't get the waiver and would be there for 2 years that Anderson would be.

Have to get over the "might help us because they have....." angle guys. Most programs have a lot of talented guys, they play more then 7 people too. If you have to hope other schools turn off a kid to help your cause, maybe you need to upgrade your staff.

It's because he isn't better than the cats coming in I want to coach against your team some day. Jones: started 38 games and averaged 9.7 points per game on a team that won the Pac 10 and went to the Elite Eight; Starks: averaged 1.5 points on 28% shooting and 0.67 assists in 10 minutes per game on a lesser team than Arizona It's not throwing someone under the bus to point out the obvious fact that they are not as good as someone else.

Jones started 38 games because there was no other point guard and the Wildcats had no choice. You think they recruit over him as a sophomore if they thought he was the future? Again, don't let stats fool you.
Markel played 10 minutes per game because of a guy named Chris Wright. You may have heard of him. All-Big East.
Come at the king, you best not miss
