It isn't just the East Coast who is tuning this out. Nothing to do with teams imo--if you take on Football, you'll get your ass kicked in ratings. As for tonight--horrendous managing and an outright lie by LaRussa in regards to why he left a LHP to face Napoli. "The Bullpen Coach didn't hear me say Motte, so Lynn got up.....they didn't hear me 2 times on my calls". Wouldn't the World Series be important enough to make certain you got the right guy into the game with bases loaded and 1 out? Albert put on his own hit and run but doesn't swing to protect the runner? Running in 9th down 2 with nobody out and an effective, yet wild closer and a runner who a legless turtle could outrun? Just saying some very poor decisions made by the "genius" tonight and nobody called it out properly on the air because they protect any/everything St. Louis. Pathetic. How do you know it was an "outright lie"? LaRussa should certainly not have thrown his bullpen coach under the bus but you have no idea if he was lying. Seriously - do you spend your downtime from this board perpetually on hold for local sports talk radio? You seem to believe that you know everything about everything. Such a tired act. It's a lie. Or maybe Tony "misremembered". You're in Game 5 of the World Series, and you just have too much crowd noise effect who is pitching because your bullpen coach (nice way to deflect horrendous moves) can't hear you talking? Much more believable if you didn't have monitors right around corner from dugout--10 feet from LaRussa, and if the guy didn't hear you the first, time, the situation is certainly important enough to stop the game, inform the umpire you are having issues with phone to pen and get right guy up. A man so paranoid that he believes Brewers altered the lighting at their stadium to help them/hurt other teams, now just up and up accepts the bad hearing of his bullpen coach? It's a simple case of a man who believes he's a genius not wanting to accept criticism for making a poor move. So he lied. Not first time/won't be last in sports. He's got a history of being a liar too--and dont' fault him for it--everyone has/will lie--be it harmless to protect ego like this or more damaging. Guru, tired act or not--majority of what I say is correct. If it wasn't, you wouldn't feel need to comment. That's what irritates the people like yourself. When I am wrong, I'm first to admit it and take my medicine. Don't like it, ignore button is your best friend.

My guess is that he wanted Motte to start loosening up when Rzepczynski warmed up but that did not affect the Napoli at-bat. He intended to have Rzepczynski pitch to Napoli because Rz had been striking out right handers by making them chase low pitches and Napoli had hit his right handers.
He may have expected Washington to pinch hit for Murphy so he already had decided that Rzepczynski would pitch to at least one right-hander.
The bullpen miscommunication was that Lynn was not supposed to pitch, so that is why he had Lynn intentionally walk Kinsler to give Motte time to warm up.
If Rzepczynski had struck out Napoli he would be taking full credit for making a genius move.

In game 2, Rzepczynski came in with Murphy due up with 1 out in the 8th, Washington pinch hit Torrealba and Rzepczynski struck him out. Then German pinch hit and grounded out. Then Motte blew the save in the 9th.
In game 1, Rzepczynski came in with Murphy due up and two on, one out in the 7th, Gentry pinch hit for Murphy and struck out then German pinch hit and struck out.
Four right handed batters, 3 K's and one groundout against Rzepczynski.
Rzepczynski came in under almost identical conditions in Game 5, but Washington changed his strategy and did not pinch hit for Murphy this time. Murphy got a very lucky single off the pitcher's glove and knee that would have been a double play if the pitcher snagged it or at least one out somewhere if he hadn't touched it.

The problem last night wasn't that Rzepczynski pitched to Napoli. It was the Cardinals' complete inability to hit with men in scoring position - time after time after time. It made me think I was listening to the Dodgers. And I agree with bmartin as to Murphy's "hit" also - that looked like a double play ball. Them's the breaks. Craig running with Pujols at the plate was stupid - that's on LaRussa. The Cardinals may have their backs against the wall, but they've been there before - remember the Phillie series. This one's not over yet.

Tough loss for the Rangers tonight, but a hell of a game. My guess is that these two resilient teams give us a great Game 7.

Incredible game. One of the most exciting I've ever seen (I would say "best" but those first 5 innings were embarrassing on both sides).
Can't imagine Game 7 will top that. GO BIRDS!

Wow. What a game. So many turning points in the late innings. My head's still spinning.
How many of you East Coasters actually stayed up past midnight for the thrilling ending?
Here's to a great Game 7 encore.

ho hum. So what's the big deal?
JK, of course. Game 6 in 1975 is still the best game I've ever seen, but this one may be the most astonishing.

I'm an "East Coaster" who turned the game on in the 8th. So i missed all the errors etc, but caught all the excitement! It did remind me of that '75 Sox game 6 win thanks to Bernie Carbo and Carlton Fisk. But we all recall how that series turned out.
Did everyone see that look on Nolan Ryan's face? Do you think both these teams would like to have had Mariano on their roster? Hey, how about Cruz dogging it in right field in the bottom of the 9th? he JOGGED over to get that ball.. and missed it! He needs to be called out for that one. Cost his team the WS!

Personally, I've enjoyed this Series more than any in quite a while. It's had a little bit of everything. I taped last night's game, knowing that I would be asleep long before the final out. I extended the recording time, but not by enough. Thought the Rangers had it! Turned on SC, only to find out they lost. In extra innings! So disappointed I missed the end, and that the Rangers lost. But there's nothing like a game seven. C'mon Rangers. Win this!

What kind of wimp doesn't stay up when you are caught up in a game like that? I tire of hearing how it was "poorly played"--it's part of the deal--imperfection is beauty of sport--you never know what will happen. 25 years ago people saw a game decided on imperfection as well---be it Stanley's wild pitch, Buckner's error, etc....and it's why sports is best--you can predict what should/could happen but it doesn't go by script.
Great series and GREAT GAME!

If last night's game took place with Yankees or Sox rallying, it would lauded as greatest game ever--and that includes bonehead plays. It's just part of the annoying media slant which has ESPN acting as a regional sports network. Love Mariano though--anyone who attacks him (know why because no reason to inject him/NYY in this talk) can snort some coke with Monty Brewster and the rest of Hackensack Bulls.

Neftali Feliz is a fine closer - one wonders if the Rangers should have a defensive replacement for apparently motionless Nelson Cruz out there.
The other big bullpen mistake was waiting forever to put Mike Adams in. You traded two good prospects for him to not use him immediately? Why?
