I have to join in this thread. I sat with HoyaChris at that "technical school down the road" for VCU 1.0, and next to him at the NC State game at the Garden. As Clyde the Glide released his heave from mid-court, right towards the basket under which he and I were seated, I looked up and said, "you know. . .that's got a chance." The next thing I knew, he and I were making plane reservations to join hoyajmw down in Fort Lauderdale, where we proceeded to spend the rest of spring break trying to forget what we'd just seen (and heard).

I remember 1978 when Derrick Jackson, one of the greatest players, and one of the classiest acts as a person we ever had suffered an ulcer before the VCU game. Derrick was a two sport athlete and the Hoya who fought the most on the court, and never gave up. We named our pet bird, in our Henle apartment, DJ in his honor. Derrick's illness cost one of our best teams its chance in the 1978 NCAAs. A team that had won the Holiday festival and 15 or so in a row, that could have gone deep in the NCAAswent down that awful night against VCU.
There are no excuses for our present team. We have waited 33 years for this!! We need to not only beat VCU but annihilate them.
Go Hoyas!
