If they do, I'llbe Editeded. We have a higher conference standing and beat them head to head. Maybe their last 10 games went better, but really what else have they done other than proving they have Pitt's number (who we also beat). If we both win one and lose one in the BET and they make it over us, I'll be Editeded. I'd rather see just 6 teams from the BET.

If the season ended today, then they might get in but there's still basketball left to play. West Virginia could easily play themselves out of the field with a loss against Providence. If they beat Providence then they probably will get in, depending on what else happens around the nation.
West Virginia has the same conference record as us. They've got two more wins overall. They've got non-conference wins against fellow bubblers GW and at NC State. They're 7-3 in their last 10; 4-1 in their last five.
If the season ended today I would have no problem with them being selected. There's no team out there that's taking a spot away from us; we simply haven't earned one.

There is no way they get in without at least 2 wins in the BET - the Seton Hall loss killed them, just like the SJ and Prov losses crippled our chances.

The only reason people are chattering about WV is because they don't want to feel stupid for ranking them early in the season...that and there must be some way to excuse Pitt's dismal double bogey against them.

I think people are looking at WVU's 2nd biggest win as not over NCSU or GW but that win at LSU - a tourney-bound team. They have away wins at Pitt, at NCSU and at LSU and home wins over GW and Pitt. Those are three stellar away victories and 2 solid home victories.
Granted, I still don't think they should get in ahead of us. I just don't think that people can say they have NO case...

WVU earned their way in. Let's not be bitter, they won 7 of the last 10, and have 3 solid out of conference wins including two huge road wins against LSU and NC State, we have no such wins. Our best OOC win is Davidson, a team that we may play again in the NIT.
Also they picked the right time to hit a funk, in the middle of the season and have recovered nicely. If they beat Providence, the best 4-12 big east team in conference history, for a third time this season there is no doubt they are in.
The fact is we were being considered before losing at home to PU, how could this team not be considered even more highly. Losing on the road at SHU is not a killer loss, losing at home to a similar team on senior night is. We choked, they have not, let's give credit where it is deserved. Finally, if we played WVU again at their place is there any doubt they would win to even the series with us? Let's face it if we played them today, even at home, they would be favored.
Personally, I will focus my angst on MD.

Good point about LSU, I forgot about that game.
My angst is not on any other team that gets in, it's on my team. If we beat Seton Hall and Connecticut and don't get in, then yeah, I may have similar feelings as you guys, but the way things stand today the blame for us not getting in falls squarely on us.

if you lose 5 in a row to end the season, you have no business complaining about not getting into the tourney. The team had there chance to get in and they blew it.

We blew it down the stretch, while WVU came on strong. Theoretically looking at the conf we should get in over WVU, but that's about it. Interestingly enough, there was so much talk about whether the BE could get 8 teams in....I wouldnt be surprised if we only got 5 teams in now. BUT...an interesting quip from SI.com that gives me a glimmer of hope:
If, say, the committee is trying to decide between Georgetown and UCLA, it is not supposed to take into account whether selecting the Hoyas would give eight teams to the Big East and leave the Pac-10 with three. I use hedge words like "technically" and "supposedly," because I asked a former committee member last week whether he ever factored into his mind how many teams were getting bids from the power conferences. "You bet your ass," he replied.

People are completely overrating ND. THEY HAVE ZERO GOOD WINS AWAY FROM HOME! This is the exact reason why two years ago two teams in our conference with better records and better RPIs got left out.
If the NCAA tournament was played in South Bend then they should get into the dance.
I think fundamentally at the end of the day the committee says: Who would we not want to play at this point in the season on a neutral court. ND hasn't risen to the level of being scary away from Joyce.
I'll go so far as to say that WVU has a better shot than ND at this point.

what i am most shocked about is the fact that NC State is getting serious consideration with an RPI of 88 and strength of schedule in the triple digits - I mean the fact that they are getting play above georgetown is absolutely laughable to me...

By the way, I was interested to see a very much bulked up Bethel travel (not called, but he definitely did the bunny hop in the pea patch before starting his dribble - thanks, Chick) and then score what was almost the winning basket against Wake on Sunday.

The Hoyas are still in this and the prognosticators will fall on their face. Those are actually two separate statements.
I'm loving the new RPI because losers like Lunardi can't just look at a sheet of paper and brag about getting "64 of 65." No offense, but I can get 64 of 65 considering 31 are decided and only the last four teams are questionable.
The deal is, there is still basketball left and the Hoyas need either four or five teams to lose or need to win two in the BET. I'm a glutton for punishment so after going to Gampel, I'll be at MSG if we beat Seton Hall. Here's to 2000 vs. 'Cuse and a repeat performance.

I think WV and Georgetown both need to win 2 to get in. ND just needs to beat Rutgers, and theyll be ok.
I think a main reason that theres still quite a bit of talk about WV is because so many of the "experts" talked about the Big East possibly getting 8 but definitly 7 for so long. After throwing that around all season and having penciled in 7 AT LEAST, they're reluctant to knock it down to 6 or maybe even 5.
The fact that NC State and Maryland get so much pub is ridiculous to me too though.

Pretty amazing that this was a topic four weeks ago. Props to the Mountaineers (team, not fans) for carrying the BE into the Elite 8 and proving doubters wrong.
