maryland.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1187263The fact is, Whittington likes Maryland a lot and his family may want him to stay close to home. But Georgetown is also in the mix as well. The Hoyas made their offer to Whittington last Saturday during his unofficial visit for a game. Maryland entertained Whittington for the Duke game, among others this season. "I really like Maryland a lot. It's a good school but so is Georgetown. I really mean, I'm nowhere ready to make a commitment yet. I don't even know when I'll be ready. I don't have any kind of time-frame for it." Whittington is a smooth player that just needs to get a little stronger. He sometimes shies away from contact. His game resembles that of former Maryland star Terrence Morris a bit in that he has excellent size, athleticism, can put it on the floor and can knock down the three.

Pretty sure Omar is Chattanooga's leading scorer. For what it's worth. He may be competing against Kemba for the NCAA's most FG attempts. Any stats available?

Also, in addition to offers from UMCP and GU: Others that have offered are Clemson, DePaul and LaSalle. Oklahoma is about to pull the trigger, too, among others. For an unknown kid, he's getting a lot of attention. 6'9 but only 195 Lbs. Sounds like a normal HS kid -- at least in terms of being skinny at 17 or so.

From Rivals: In addition to Georgetown and Maryland, both of whom sent assistants to see him play last Friday, Whittington shared..."Texas, Clemson, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Washington, Oklahoma, DePaul, LaSalle, George Mason" are recruiting him.

There are like three guys in HS every year that don't need to put on muscle. I feel like they should stop adding "needs to add weight" or things like that to weaknesses or areas for improvement. It just goes without saying.

It just goes without saying. Agree Chep. Seems like there are 20 kids who need to add weight, for every Jahidi or Sweetney who needs to lose. Speaking of which, looking at Tyler Adams photos... that kid looks ready to go right now! So does Moses, btw.

It just goes without saying. Yeah, chep, totally agree with this - I've been saying that for years. There are a few kids like Adams or the Canadian kid Walker (ended up at Minnesota, as I recall) who might need to slim down a bit, but most high school kids are going to need to bulk up. There aren't many LeBron's out there, coming out of high school with a man's body.

I think Adams just needs to get in CBB shape. Build up stamina for the 30-35 game season and the 2-3 game a week BE stretch.

Pretty sure Omar is Chattanooga's leading scorer. For what it's worth. He may be competing against Kemba for the NCAA's most FG attempts. Any stats available? Pomeroy's stats have Omar taking 28.9% of shots, 139th in the country. Kemba takes 33.5%, 21st and tops among power-conference players. Jimmer is the top notable name, at 35.5%, 7th. For comparison's sake, Austin is at 28.5%, 160th. If you prefer raw data, Omar takes 12.1 FGA/gm, Jimmer 18.8, Kemba 18.3, and Freeman 12.6.

Reportedly, JTIII was in attendance to watch Whittington go for 20 pts, 11 rbs, 6 blocks, 5 TOs in a 57-53 win tonight over Glenelg.

This is from SlamOnline about Whittington and his performance this August.
A revelation to all who saw him play last week, Whittington probably gained the most out of anybody in Orlando. At 6-8 Whittington is extremely versatile as he can take his man off the bounce and finish smoothly at the rim, shoot the three point shot with range off the catch or bounce, or get teammates involved with his natural passing ability. The game seemed to come naturally to Whittington and with some added motivation by the right coach he could become a very good player at the next level.

kid is intriguing. you can't tell much from the highlights as to how he really plays the game, but his length/fluidity at 6'8 is impressive and he gets off the ground pretty well. If he can shoot as reported, I can see why we're interested.
I think Hood is a long shot, even if Stansbury is out of job..but he, Otto or Whittington would seem to be all good fits at the 3 spot in our system.
Like the idea of the next 2 years and beyond not having anyone at that spot under 6'7. & even if those 3 don't become Hoyas, I think the writing is on the wall that it is what III wants. as Pollard/Anderson are there for 2012 as well.

34 points, 11-21 FGs, 3-9 on treys, 8 boards, 4 blocks, 1 assist, 4 steals, and 2 TOs in a easy win over Mt. Hebron.
Rumor is that the staff has put on the full court press and is pushing for a commitment.

Article from Clemson's Scout site says Whittington does not have any favorites at the moment and hasn't taken any official visits. Claims offers from Clemson, Hoyas, DePaul, Texas and Oklahoma.

was supposed to attend Maryland's game this weekend but apparently was a no-show. Twerp fans naturally don't want him so bad anymore.

A couple of "insiders" on their board think he's all but done to Georgetown.
