Tough day for Harry.
Came to the realization/acceptance that Mom and Dad are actually Santa. Given that he is in sixth grade, we are thrilled he believed as long as he did, but a little bit of his childhood died today.
That said, he is growing up and that all by itself is a beautiful, wonderful miracle.

What there is no Santa?! Oh, Elvado, you spoiled it for everybody! But that was nice that Harry believed for so long. 6th grade?!!! How time flies. The important thing is that he is healthy and enjoying a normal childhood.

Given that he is in sixth grade, we are thrilled he believed as long as he did, but a little bit of his childhood died today. That said, he is growing up and that all by itself is a beautiful, wonderful miracle. My youngest nephew figured it out not long ago as well and it is a bit heartbreaking for the adults, no? But, while Harry figured that part out, hopefully when he gets older he'll figure out the other part. That he's been YOUR Santa all along. And, if he has children of his own some day, he'll get his Santa back too.

Just finished the morning bedlam. Several very cool soccer jerseys, some books, old school rod hockey and many other wonderful gifts for Harry while Morgan’s pile ran toward fashion and cool high school girls stuff.
For Mom and me, just plain joy at two happy kids.
Merry Christmas to a fine group of people who have meant so much to my son.

Happy 2018 to a wonderful collection of people who have meant so much to our family.
May you and your families have nothing but good health, good fortune and good times in this New Year!!
A few wins for our Hoyas would not hurt either.

Today marks seven years since we found out Harry was sick and I opened this thread.
The time has gone by in the blink of an eye while certain days and moments seemed to take forever.
7 years later, he is healthy, happy and everything a parent could want ina child. To briefly recap(brag), he is an excellent student, altar server, plays soccer, baseball and basketball, runs cross country and track (that’s for you Nevada), competed in his first chess tournament last week, has a role in the school musical and on Monday was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society at school.
All that said, his greatest achievement is being here 7 years later. I am still not sure he knows how sick he was or how much danger his life was in (I hope he doesn’t ). His courage and spirit are nothing short of amazing.
For the gift of my son, I thank God, his doctors and nurses, his family and friends and everyone on this Board and the entire GU community who from the moment this thread opened, took him into their hearts and prayers and proved once again that WE ARE GEORGETOWN is a hell of a lot more than a cheer at a basketball game.

Wow!!! I am so happy for Harry's health and he seems he is on his way to being a Renaissance man. I liked the shout out for me on the track/XC scene. But I am happy that his sports are diversified. That is the way it should be.
Now his being inducted into the National Junior Honor Society brings back bad memories for me. Our outreach coordinator at work asked me to speak to some junior honor society students at a new by middle school. I would often go to schools to do some chemistry demos and talk to the kids about a career in science and the importance of a good environment. So I was going to ad lib my way with this class of students. I had a tie on, but no coat jacket and a head of hair that needed cutting. Imagine my surprise when I arrived at the school with the school band playing, the audience was filled with parents, and the principal looked like a model from GQ. I was the MAIN speaker for the national honor society induction ceremony. They even had a printed program with my bio. The only thing I can think of was how I would get back at our outreach coordinator. I don't know how I got through that talk. I hope Harry had a better experience and a better main speaker!
