Bossi:
Already a highly regarded four-star prospect who ranks #29 in the class of 2012, Devonta Pollard looked, if anything, to be a bit under-rated during his sensational night for the Southern Phenoms.
Although he's not the 6-foot-9 that he's listed at on the Phenoms' roster, he's at least 6-foot-7 and has tremendous size for the small forward position. The lefty also happens to be in possession of a basketball body, elite level athleticism and quickness off of the dribble.
The Porterville (Miss.) Kemper County star hit some deep threes, blocked shots, grabbed rebounds and got to the free throw line. However, the self described "four-man" displayed tremendous quickness and ability to attack from the perimeter off the dribble.
Left or right, nobody could keep Pollard out of the lane as he shook off a rough start to score 22 of his team high 25 during the second half.
"I play the four but I can put the ball on the floor and get to the bucket," said Pollard Friday night. "I can play multiple spots, that's what makes me different. If I have a big guy I'm too quick off the dribble or I can take a little guy into the post."
Pollard gave the indication that he hasn't thought very seriously about his recruitment but listed Alabama, Georgetown, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, LSU and UConn as some of the schools he's heard from to one degree or another.

"...a basketball body, elite level athleticism and quickness off of the dribble." - Yes, yes and yes, plus sinks 3s and penetrates? Type of player we need.

The only non-elite level athlete I want on the floor is Kyle. His smarts and skill make up for his slowness of foot. He recognizes this and always seems to put himself in the right place depending on the situation.

Kyle's also someone you want because he wins games--and not just on offense-he uses his length and basketball IQ to be a great defender. Seen him lockdown Austin Rivers, Michael Gilchrist, and several others during AAU play too. Anderson is type you have to surround with great athletes though--and finishers--because it does no good to have great passes made to guys who can't finish.

RDF and ID Do you guys think we have a realistic chance of landing Anderson? because I don't. Admittedly, my feeling is simply a gut reaction to myriad inputs, posts, latest GU developments, etc. I really have no idea. But it just doesn't feel like its going to happen. AM I wrong?

Hard to say--he keeps listing Hoyas and know his parents like the program and Bob Hurley's mentioned what a good fit Kyle/Georgetown would be---he's visited 2 times for MM-when he was a FR and then last Fall. You don't do that without having some serious interest--and stated he'd like to play close to home--and Hoyas have let it be known-he can have ball in his hands---but the key is going to be what Hoyas do recruiting wise. I hope he does-and he fits the program so well--and it's also why it's important to bring in other players who kids like Kyle feel they can win with--because guys who are big time prospects want to play with other guys who can play. Good thing is-he communicates with Tyler Adams and Jabril Trawick a lot--and fact he's friendly with them is good--but he's tight with Nova guys, Rutgers players, etc....so it's not huge factor in Hoyas favor but at least he knows them/stays in touch.

Pollard is having an awfully big spring so far. Have read he is almost definitely a 5 star in upcoming rankings. Unfortunately, also heard he is leaning strongly towards Alabama, with the Hoyas and Mississippi St. right behind the Crimson Tide.

Description of his play this weekend at King James Classic from Scout:
Devonta Pollard, PF/SF, Southern Phenoms – Pollard was nothing short of spectacular on Saturday. His athleticism is off the charts, and he just knows how to be effective on the floor. Pollard did a lot of his damage with drives off the wing to the rim, but also was effective on the glass grabbing offensive rebounds and turning them into points. Defensviely Pollard can guard multiple positions, and really is asserting himself as one of the best forwards in the class.
Now listing Mississippi State, Georgetown, Kentucky, Memphis, LSU, Ole Miss, and Alabama.
Pretty scared by that Kentucky listing. Kentucky folks saying Calipari went to visit Pollard this week and Kentucky plans to make him a priority ($$$).

This is the exact type of player I'd want. However, I think he'll stay in the SEC, and I think Gavin Ware may follow suit On the plus side, landing Porter means a guy like Pollard is not AS essential in 2012.

Pollard had a recent interview up with Scout.com--as did Dvauntes Smith Rivera after his Louisville trip, anyone know what was said? Any mention of recruitment/Hoyas?

Pollard mentions Hoyas and every school in the SEC. Says he has no favorites.
DSR doesn't mention Hoyas among schools he plans on visiting anytime soon.

He (DSR)has been on campus already. Do not want him. Pollard mentions Hoyas and every school in the SEC. Says he has no favorites. DSR doesn't mention Hoyas among schools he plans on visiting anytime soon.

Every school in the SEC? I guess that tells you where he is leaning. I would venture that his even mentioning us is a tribute to Kirby.

Up to #6 on Rivals. MVP of Bob Gibbons this weekend. We are still in there with Mississippi State, Bama and Kentucky. Would absolutely thrive in Jeff Green role.

Pollard and Gavin Ware are a package deal. Get one you probably get both. Mississippi State's campus is less than five minutes from his house, leading many to believe the Bulldogs are the team to beat for his signature, but Ware says that's not true. "When I looked on the Internet, I saw where somebody put, 'Whoever wants him is going have to take him from (Mississippi) State.' That's not true," Ware said. "I'm open to any program who shows interest in me, and I'll do my research as far as the distance and the academics they have, because you can't get anywhere with basketball without your academics." Ware's AAU teammate Devonta Pollard, a top 30 prospect from Miss., has said that the duo wants to play together at the next level. Ware feels the same way, but it's too early to label the two a package deal. www.msboyshoops.com/news.html

If he means what he says, that certainly can't hurt our chances.
