I think that we can agree that God exists and that he must still be a Brett Favre fan. At 298 games, he was likely to miss this week's game in Minneapolis. Suddenly, a huge December snow storm comes. . . that Minneapolis can't handle. First, the Giants' plane gets diverted to Kansas City and the game gets moved to Monday night. Then when Favre misses the Saturday walkthrough making it look unlikely that he will play Monday night, the Metrodome roof deflates. Now, the NFL isn't sure if the game will have to be moved again (either to another day or the NFL has to find a new stadium). I just hope the NFL does what is in its best interest and reschedules the game for whenever Favre gets healthy. I'd hate to see what God's next move is.

I think its curious that a dome in Minneapolis can't handle 17 inches of slow. Its really not that much.
In comparison, it snowed 3-4 feet in Syracuse this past week and the Dome was still in tact by weeks end.

The Dome probably wasn't designed to handle 3-4 feet of snow in one day because that doesn't really happen in Minnesota because the Twin Cities aren't a hell hole like Syracuse.

Anyone see the video of the collapse on Fox? This is amazing.
Speaking of divine intervention, thankfully this happened at 5am with no one in the building and no one working on the roof.

A dome is a dome is a dome. Their sole purpose is to keep out cold and snow. So failing after a mere 17 inches is pretty sad. I think H2Oya has it right: God just doesn't want to see Brett Favre on the sideline.

It would be assinine to build the Dome to handle an average Minneapolis winter. They have to build these things to withstand much more. Very surprising the Dome collapsed, but agree with the comment "thankfully, no one was there". So why don't they just play the game in NY? Detroit? What the heck is that? So the G-men would get an extra home game and the Vikings an extra road game. Is that any worse than a bad ref call on a key play? I don't think so. Let the teams fans be at the game.

Yeah, only someone who has been demented by living in Syracuse would think a blizzard dumping 17 inches isn't an unusual occurrence. And the Metrodome still has its original roof, unlike the Carrier Dome, which had a new roof installed in 1999 w/ heating elements to deal with all the snow that the worst place on Earth gets. But you know, if you want to keep bragging about how awesome the Carrier Dome is, well, that's cool. I assume you regularly root for Syracuse out of conference as well?

The Metrodome roof is 430,000 square feet. The weight of 17" of snow is about seven pounds per square foot. That's an inordinate amount of weight for a roof that's held up only by air pressure--good thing there wasn't a game going on when it broke.
Speaking of snow on a roof, I was at the 1993 Big East Tournament when there was 15" of snow falling on the Madison Square Garden roof (a hard roof, not Teflon) and water started dropping onto the court. There were a lot of nervous MSG officials looking up that day.

One can only assume that if the Carrier Dome was bigger that the roof would collapse all the time (it's roof only 287,000 square feet).

I'm confused how my making fun of MN for having a dome roof that collapses from a few inches of white powdery stuff is comparable to me using the carrier dome as a comparison

All I'm saying is that the Metrodome is a failure when compared to the Carrier Dome, which I knew would annoy you. I'm not defending Syracuse, I'm just saying that it has a better roof.

I'm on Lizziebeth Hoya's side. It doesn't make me upset to think that the best thing going for Syracuse is, "At least their roof is better than the the collapsed Metrodome roof!"
Being better than the Metrodome is not really a compliment.

If I know anything about people from cold places w/ lots of snow, their ability to deal with the cold and snow is a point of pride. This is true whether it's Alaska, North Dakota, Colorado, Minnesota or Syracuse.
So Lizziebeth can pretend she's not bragging about how Syracuse managed to build a dome (w/ a smaller roof) that can handle more snow, but the reason she brought it up is the same reason all the other people from Syracuse are bringing it up--because they want to brag about how much better they are at handling their winters.

Yes, and um, right now, I think she's winning that argument.

I do like to brag that Syracuse is good about handling winters because there has to be one redeeming thing about that place I called home for 18 years.
But here's my question: If MN just proved they can't handle winters (and therefore can't brag about their ability to deal with the cold and snow), what IS MN good for?
(TBird, this is all just to annoy you...)

Actually, those in warmer-weather climates are winning that argument. Sometimes the only way to win is not to play.
