I have not read The Walking Dead comics, so I am viewing this show from a completely uneducated perspective.
But I was thinking about it last night after watching the most recent episode.
One of the things I think I like about the show is that it is so completely frustrating. Or maybe frustrating is not the word. Maybe tantalizing is what I mean. I'm thinking of an unfunny version of Seinfeld's The Parking Garage.
The season begins with the announcement that they are headed to Ft. Benning. Two episodes in, and they haven't gotten anywhere at all. And probably won't for a while.
Of course, this is intentional, and I could probably write a whole essay about just this one aspect of the show. For now, I'll just say that all I know that it drives me mad, in a very, very good way.
Also, as an actor, it must be awesome to be Norman Reedus. The guy gets, like, 90% of the best lines in the entire show.
"Shut up!"

I could see them throwing in a little joke there.
Like maybe passing a sign or billboard or something that said "AEQUITAS" on it somewhere, and having Daryl say something like: "What the hell does 'aequitas' mean?" Completely mispronouncing it, of course.

By the way, if what I posted actually happens in the show, I want some freaking royalties. Someone get me Silent Bob.

The best thing is that Darrell is not even in the comics. That's what I kind of like about this series: the intentional decision to stray from the source material. There are some really big differences (Darrell, the CDC plot) and some smaller ones. It kind of makes it a different take on the story, but one by the same writer.

Man, acting really does count for something.
I watched Once Upon A Time tonight, followed by Walking Dead.
I like the story line of OUAT, I think it's really interesting, but the acting is just so hammy, it's not even funny. Not sure how much longer I can watch if that is not going to get any better.
It was made even more stark by then watching Walking Dead and seeing some really superior acting. The difference was ridiculous.
Oh, and.....JESUS CHRIST, SHANE!!! WTF?!?!?

At this point, should we create a separate Walking Dead thread?
Shane's decision is defensible somewhat, in that it was clear that they both weren't going to make it out, and Shane had the best chance of surviving. But yeah, that was freaking cold, man.

Still an awesome show—possibly my second-favorite on right now. Anyone else watching American Horror Story?

I've just caught up on American Horror Story & I like it a lot.
I think they do the play on what's real/not real really well. Something I always enjoy in a TV show. Also a good mix of the supernatural and just good old human frailty and or wickedness.
Lost had a lot of that, of course. And the Stephen King book/Johnny Depp movie 'Secret Window.'
(I wish someone would make Gerald's Game into a movie. That may very well have been the creepiest, scariest book I have ever read.)

Jonah Goldberg's critique of The Walking Dead: www.nationalreview.com/corner/282716/taking-zombies-next-level-jonah-goldberg(and be sure to click on the "Cracked" link he embedded if you haven't read it already). I think he makes some good points on how to improve the show, except for #4. At the beginning of the zombie outbreak, this is a good point, with militaries around the world still in place. But when there are just a few survivors left, I think this show has adequately explained why guns, in fact, are a pretty bad idea.

This show is pretty damn sexist, huh? From what I understand, Andrea was a complete badass in the comics, and she's just a godawful human being in the TV show.

Jonah Goldberg needs to understand what cinema verite means, but so does the rest of the world (it's up there with enormity in the 'hey, it sounds like so it must mean...'). Aside from that quibble, I like the story. I'm with him on #4. I get the issues with guns, but I'm still going to carry a few. And the fast moving zombie thing, too. 28 days Later was better than most, but there were still too many "idiot" moments.

Anyone watch Boss? We're just now catching up on the DVR and we're through two episodes. All I can say is that if they showed as much of Kathleen Robertson in Beverly Hills 90210 as they do in this show, I would've watched a lot more of 90210.

Been a favorite for a long time, not that she's in enough for that to matter, but she has some wonderful scenes in Boss.
On another note, I think "The League" is becoming my favorite show. Not a lot of thinking there, but it cracks me up every week.

My son just tipped me to a new, original series that NETFLIX created and is running in FEB. Looks pretty funny to me. Stars Steven Van Zandt (aka Little Steven, aka Silvio Dante of the Sopranos) -- as a hood in witness protection in... Lillehammer Norway! The series brings back to television the familiar face of Steve Van Zandt who – when not playing guitar for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band – played New Jersey mobster Silvio Dante on HBO’s The Sopranos during its six-season run. In Lilyhammer, Van Zandt stars as New York mobster Frank ‘The Fixer’ Tagliano, who is shuffled into the witness protection program after dropping a dime on his former boss. Rather than be shipped off to Kansas or New Mexico, Frank insists on calling the host of the 1994 Winter Olympics home – and the Feds move the gangster off to the Norwegian town of Lillehammer.
Of course, Frank’s vision of an idyllic, snow-capped getaway filled with gorgeous women and the lifestyle to which he’s grown accustomed, turns out to be a far cry from the actuality of his new situation. From what we can see in the trailer, the series looks to be a blend of drama and comedy – not unlike certain aspects of The Sopranos – with much of the central storyline focusing on the stranger-in-a-strange-land aspect.
