Elvado - what line in the stump speech are you referring to? The line about "we shall overcome" has been in there since the early stages of the 2008 primaries, so it should not be surprising. To my knowledge, it has always been placed in the middle of other challenges that this country has confronted. Perhaps it is presumptuous to think that we have really overcome, and I think that is a fair point. Probably this one: muckrack.com/markknoller/statuses/26034882349or this one: "You know, the slaves sitting around a fire singing freedom songs, they weren't sure when slavery would end, but they understood it was going to end," www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/09/29/AR2010092907795_pf.html

the truly sick part of Barry's whole act is that he and his party aspire to a society where the governed look to Washington for all of their needs, jobs, food, medicine, all provided by government largesse. We had places like that a long time ago; they were called plantations. In more recent times, they were called collectives.
His slavery analogy is so very ironically accurate.

What in these historical comments are folks finding offensive? They seem fairly analogous to what he has said in the past and go nicely with the reflections he has made about President Lincoln.

I guess it all depends on who's the slave and who's the master. In the slavery analogy, there is obviously a good guy and a bad guy. Who's Barry's bogeyman du jour?

That's an all time-low deleted for you. "Historical comments" Edited. Arguing positions is fine, humor is fine, gratuitous name calling is not.Rebuttal - I didn't call him a name. I said his stupid post was a new low, even for him.

The House of Representatives took off for home to campaign without passing a budget. Democrat Party majority in House; Democrat Party majority in Senate; Democrat Party President; No budget, but plenty of time to campaign, fundraise and vilify the opposition; and They have the nerve to seek re-election. Priceless. No offense, but this is pretty par for the course since... well... since Victor Page was still on campus. (See pg 14 - www.senate.gov/reference/resources/pdf/97-684.pdf)In other words, I know you're a polemicist trying to throw fire - but really? It's a pox on both houses, not just the Democrats.

We had places like that a long time ago; they were called plantations. In more recent times, they were called collectives. His slavery analogy is so very ironically accurate. Correct me if I'm wrong—and I'm not—but slaves were obligated to look to the master for their needs, jobs, food, and medicine.* No politician has ever, and I do mean EVER, suggested that the people should have to look to Washington for anything. I believe you have a problem with Washington making goods and services available to those in need who cannot acquire such goods and services elsewhere for various reasons. Therefore, "big government" (if we want to call it that, and I'll go along with you on the terminology) is quite distinguishable from slavery for a reason so obvious that I can't believe it had to be explained to a thinking adult human. * I'm also pretty sure slaves—i.e., black Americans who as of 150 years ago could be owned by other people—didn't get top-level medical treatment, but that's another issue. Personally, I want every old, fat, white hillbilly riding around on one of those Rascal scooters provided by Medicare to give that back to the government, too. But then, how else could they get to their anti-government-spending rally?

No government doesn't make you look to Washington. They just took over the health care delivery system and will regulate it to the point that you will have to look to Washington. No they don't own me, but I work each year until late May to pay them.
Obama is trading in classic race-baiting politics with his slavery analogy and he knows it.

Belittle me at will. If you don't think he's making a clearly race-baiting play here, your Barry O Underoos are cutting off the circulation to your head.

I'm pretty sure anyone 150 years ago wasn't getting "top-level medical treatment." Ok, maybe the whites got the better leeches, and the blacks got lower grades leeches. Also, thank you for defining "slave" for us. We were all a little unclear on that point.

You ever try making a sign for a game or a rally or whatever? You always miss a letter or run out of room.
