It's a tough call to go for it on 4th and 1. If you miss, you've handed them field position and control of the clock. It just didn't work for us today; tough loss, indeed.
But the view from the Hilltop is a very excited one. I've never heard the type of chatter that I'm hearing going into the first home game/homecoming in my previous three years here.

proud of the team even though they lost. Team is immeasurably better than they were in the past couple years.

Usually I don't go for moral victories, but this one qualifies as one to be proud of the team. Good effort, Hoyas!

I am with you, NV. In one short season, we've gone from being laughed off the field to a team that delivers punches to the mouth. Quick turn-around that speaks well of our players and staff.
Get a W next week.

Just got back from the game. Despite the extremely disappointing result, it was fantastic to see a competitive Georgetown team that absolutely, 100% BELONGED ON THAT FIELD. The last game I saw at the Yale bowl was 2 years ago and we lost 47-7. And it wasn't that close. Fast forward to 2010 and I think Yale probably still beats us 7 times out of 10, but there was not a single person in that stadium who could deny that we're on the same general level and should be a team given respect.
Our offense was, at times, explosive and it was the first time since the MAAC era that I've felt like any offensive play could actually result in a TD. We have some great players and we have a foothold for the future.
I wish for the players that they could have pulled it out and, no doubt, we have improvements to make, but for the first time in the PL era, I can say that we are a REAL Patriot League team who can compete. And that's outstanding.
Let's keep building and beat Holy Cross!

Oh! That was close. Good thing my wife (a Yalie) will not find out about the result... Keep it going, boys.

sounds like officiating is suspect too. last week's game had a similar score (24-14) at half... yes, i was at the game and it was possibly the single worst officiating i have ever seen (and i've seen a lot of games over the years) our boys really got "homered" in this one AND in addition to the just dispicable officiating the Yale coaching staff was classless cursing at and taunting our boys from their sideline.....it was very disapointing

Of course, if the Hoyas don't block two field goals and Yale doesn't give up a kickoff to open the second half, a different outcome, too. Georgetown lost momentum with the Darby INT and the pass defense had no answer for Witt. Maybe one late turnover would have been enough, but give Yale credit for excellent clock management at the end of the second half, and don't forget the the first, with the score that extended the lead to 27-14. But a win Saturday would put Yale in the rear view mirror very quickly. Game recaps from the Yale Athletics web site (no GU highlights shown, however). Again, if only GU could package something like this every week...

I was at the game and noticed a number of G'Town players getting helped off the field due to injury by the training staff. Any update on injuries, will we be shorthanded at any positions for the upcoming games?

The Gridiron Hoyas must be significantly improved. Weren't they something like 1-9 or 1-10 last year? Now they were 1 play away from starting 3-0!
Do you all think they are that much better or are they likely to finish 3-8 or so when all is said and done? Obviously, there is very little coverage of GU football down here other than sites like this.

Not likely to finish 3-8, because they should be competitive in every game, because the offense now has big play threats (change in plays, as well as a bigger O-line), and also because the OOC schedule is a bit softer, out with Stony Brook and Richmond, and only 1 Ivy foe.
I'm looking forward to finally seeing this year's team in person on Saturday, but from what I've read and "seen" so far, I'd say 7-4 (3-3 in PL) is a very realistic prediction, and even better is possible.

Our no huddle offense appears to be giving teams fits. Can't wait for the game on saturday.
