Jets vs Vikings could be a late playoff game, Ill be excited to watch that one. Well, it would have to be a VERY late "playoff game".

Jets vs Vikings could be a late playoff game, Ill be excited to watch that one. As a Tom Brady fantasy owner...#$*&! I really can't see what the Pats were thinking. obviously everyone is waiting for BB to pull something out of his back pocket but I just don't see it. SD is asking way too much for V. Jackson for them to pick him up. Unless there was some locker room drama, there is no reason for this. PS lets hope tate will be a viable fantasy pick-up...opposing Ds are going to pack it in the box There's always locker room drama with Moss. BB traded a fourth round pick for Moss in his prime and then received a third round pick for a 33 year old Moss. Nicely done. And I guess Moss/Vikes proves that you can go home again.

Brandon Tate says, "No worries, everybody! I can make this play!" In all seriousness though, without bringing someone else in, it'll be difficult for the Pats to continue to use Tate on special teams - where he's been outstanding - if he's going to be joining Welker as the starter. As a Ravens fan though, I'm more than happy to have Moss out of the conference.

Randy Moss back to the Vikings. Great move for the Vikings and Brett Favre.

All the talking heads seem to think the Patriots didn't do themselves any favors trading Moss. While I agree that he is "worth" more than a 3rd round draft pick in today's market, all other things being equal, it's obvious that all other things aren't equal. The Pats clearly think that their prospects are better without Moss. That much seems to be clear, but this keeps getting worded as a "win now" vs. "win later" issue. I'm not so sure that's the case. I haven't heard anyone from the Pats suggest that they are building for the future. Certainly having 2 picks in each of the first 4 rounds brightens the future, but I still think the Pats were thinking about this year. Whether they are right or wrong remains to be seen.

I don't think Belicheck and the Pats will ever acknowledge "giving up on the season".
But, they may have looked at their sad defense -- especially those really young DBs -- when they considered all the factors around Moss. It appears that Moss was a locker room distraction. At some point, you balance his plusses -- a GREAT WR when he wants to be, with his negatives.
Finally, they may have decided there was no way they would sign him when his contract expires at the end of the year.... so lets get something for him instead of nothing.
Now that the decks have been cleared, Bill can go back to building his team... and sent a clear signal that he won't tolerate distractions and wants everyone playing his way.
Hey, the guy won 3 Superbowls. I think we need to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Pats inquiring about Vincent Jackson--so that would be a good pickup to replace Moss--younger player, physical presence, and big target for Brady. Stockpiling the draft picks allows you to get a proven player and still have high picks to add to roster.

The Vincent Jackson inquiries were inevitable, and I'd certainly be willing to swap one malcontent for another. I was hoping they were coming immediately after the Moss trade (suggesting that a trade was in the works with the Chargers as part of getting rid of Moss), but I think they'll be able to work something out. Welker is probably going to get his head taken off by Halloween if the Patriots don't get a deep threat.

The thing about Vincent is - he's malcontent because he wants a long-term contract. It works with the Pats only if they are willing to sign him for the money he wants. Which I don't know if they are.

I'm not sure you understood my point. That was exactly what I was saying. After the trade, virtually every talking head was saying that they could have gotten more for him and that even though they had stockpiled draft picks for the future, they weren't sure that they shouldn't think about this year. I think you and I are on the same page. As for your other points, I can't argue a bit.
On an unrelated topic, what about next week's matchup of "Super Bowl Contenders" Dallas and Minnesota!?!

Was last night the perfect Brett Favre game or what?
I think it encapsulated just about everything about his career.
Some record setting, some brilliant throws, and ultimately boneheaded plays to lose the game.
I think RDF must've been in front of his TV screaming, "MICROCOSM!!! MICROCOSM!!! MICROCOSM!!!"

The way I reacted/watched that game was the exact same as watching old Vikings v. Favre games. I yelled at the announcers for sucking up to him / papering over his flaws. I yelled at him for being awful. Really, the only difference was that I was happy when a receiver caught a pass, but then again, this might be my favorite receiving corps ever (especially once Sydney Rice gets back).
And yeah, I blame the Packers for Favre. He wouldn't be the golden boy he is today (well, maybe was) if it weren't for all the bs about the frozen tundra, and Titletown and small town football and blah, blah, blah, blah.

He wouldn't be the golden boy he is today (well, maybe was) if it weren't for all the bs about the frozen tundra, and Titletown and small town football and blah, blah, blah, blah. You summed up why I can't stand the guy--and it's really due to John Madden--who did this with several players-and I also blame Madden for not just Favre--but for creating Frank Caliendo's avenue to tv time. Sydney Rice isn't even walking without crutches right now--and we're halfway through October this week, so I think Moss trade was made to give Vikes a deep threat thinking Sydney won't return as much as it is the "great WR Corp". If Rice returns--that is a great, great, plus--but will he be the player he was last year? Doubt it--he will be next year-but this year--don't think so. At least he'd be a threat though. My favorite Favre "BS" from last night--as the comeback was taking place--he started to grab the elbow--to build the legend and camera crew bought in--but for most part the Announcing crew ignored it-get feeling Jaws isn't a big "Brett guy"--and then when losing was inevitable-he didn't touch his elbow--because it wouldn't be the story. How many guys that play any level of football get injured? How many guys in CFB and NFL play hurt? I'd say a very, very high percent. How many do you get pictures of their bruises in offseason after screwing their teams out of a win? How many have info leaked to make sure the public knows they are hurt? Very few--and that is why I can't stand him--so many guys play their butts off--you think Adrian Peterson isn't hurting like hell today--he's a great, great player who gives you all he has-and is to be respected for that alone--unlike the "Hillbilly King"--Peterson made an effort to not fumble this offseason and so far--good to his word--without altering how hard he runs/plays--but heaven forbid he gets credit because you know a physical RB never gets banged up/bruised during a game. It's his ankle (he just needed a scope), the amounts of injections we hear about constantly from him, and now the elbow--which sure looked fine on the 60 yard bombs he threw. I'm waiting for excuse that elbow caused his arm/hand to be numb and created the fumbles he dropped--snap was good/exchanges were good--but Center gets pulled??? Typical and only will get worse as season progresses.

I suppose the 70,000 yards and 500 TDs have nothing to do with it. All the big name QBs get slurped incessantly - Brady, Manning, Marino, Elway, Montana, etc. Farve is no different.
