I don't care what kind of visions of grandeur the Aggies may have, they simply are not Saban, Carroll or Stoops material. Let's face it, all hollywood fabrications aside, the undersized dork with the pocket protector and big horn-rimmed glasses simply doesn't get Angeline Jolie, or Selma Hayek, or Cameron Diaz etc... This may be your best post on this site, which is to say the only good one. ;D You know TAMU is bad if even hifi is ragging on it. That's brutal. That being said, I think TAMU will beat UT this Thanksgiving.

Texas A&M is no undersized dork. With a endowment five times the size of Florida (or GU for that matter) and a SEC-sized athletics budget, they're capable of a lot more than where they are now.

One thing they need to quit doing--trying to be a "classy/friendly" rival of Texas. Always hear this garbage when game is played about Mack Brown and INSERT Aggie coach and how they are get along well and have a "respectful" relationship. I'd look for someone who not only dislikes Texas--but makes it nasty. When you have an opponent that likes to operate in a certain manner-go at them in a manner that makes them change their approach. Oklahoma used to have a psychological advantage over Texas because Stoops didn't respect Brown or his staff and their pansy way of football. Then UT got smart and started to hire DC's who had some balls and were nasty--and that helped--and Stoops never replaced his good coaches--he just promoted tool boxes like Brent Venables and Kevin Wilson.
So if opposing coach is a nice guy--try to stir it up--if he's a red ass--throw flowery bouquets and blow smoke up his rear, whatever it is to disrupt them or how they do things--do it.

RDF, Jackie Sherrill had total disregard for Texas, and then when he ripped off five straight wins against Horns on ESPN and three consecutive SWC titles, all of a sudden the Dallas Morning News "discovers" cheating in the conference and Sherrill got axed for the sake of comity. Also, SMU paid for the collective sins of the conference with the death penalty. I truly do miss the open-ended 80s.

DFW, I'm not talking about the overall size of the institution. And while you do make a good point is essentially pointing out that the Aggies have a lot of the resources necessary to be an elite program, the fact remains that they are not. And therefore, thoughts of courting the likes of Cameron Diaz are fantasy ... much like thoughts of luring Nick Saban away from Alabama.
Tejano, A&M certainly had success under Sherrill, but to suggest that the alleged cheating was the result of some Longhorn inspired witch hunt is quite a stretch. Jackie was a well known cheater, back when cheating was cool.

Penn State is the perfect example of how a bad team can be ranked thanks to pre season voting.
They are 3-2 with wins over 1AA Youngstown State, Kent State and Temple.
Against Alabama and Iowa they have been outscored 48-6. The scores really don't do those games justice though. If it's possible to look worse than 48-6, they achieved it.
Their offense has exploded for 1 total TD in their games against 'Bama, Iowa, and Temple.
They are dreadful.
So much for 38 straight weeks being ranked.

I'd like to thank ESPN/ABC for being the biggest jerkoffs of all time and putting almost every game I wanted to see on television at the same time. Thanks guys--appreciate that--well not quite as much as turning to ESPN2 to see Miami-Clemson game and seeing European Soccer League. I called and let them know what I thought of that--and amazingly--they said I was far from alone--and 2 minutes later--that bull**** was off the air and the game was on.

Did you get to talk to Mark May? Did you see why the Manchester United game was going over the time slot? Their locker room was flooded and that somehow delayed the start of the game by 20 minutes.

Only on a Georgetown board would people defend showing European Soccer over CFB. They should've moved that dogcrap to Espn 100 so the minimal fanbase in the states can watch another scoreless tie--it's so exciting-watch people who run around and never do anything. Like it--dont' like it--I don't care--Saturday Fall Afternoons are meant for CFB-not Euroleague soccer and I don't care if the entire stadium was under water, I don't want to see this GARBAGE on when there is football to be watched--as in the football that people in this country overwhelmingly tune into to watch and have helped make ESPN what it is--but guess I'm not sophisticated enough to appreciate the "beautiful game"--and you know what--I'm proud to indulge of my passionate for the "violent game"--which apparently is the minority around this place.

Wow... I think after reading some of the posts in this thread, I like college football less than I did going in? Wow... SEVERAL calls. One thing I can be sure of is that nobody was calling in hoping that they'd put the Georgetown game on.

You can like CFB less then you did--fine-but majority of people in the United States would rather watch a CFB then Euroleague soccer. If this is seen as "shocking" to people here--then hate to be the bearer of bad news.

As someone that loves watching soccer AND college football, I was surprised to see ESPN2 broadcasting the 10am game yesterday. They usually have the 745am game which would never conflict with college football. When I got back from walking my dog and put on the Miami - Clemson game I was wondering why the hell the Manchester United - Sunderland game was still on. I knew there would be some pretty upset people out there but I didn't really care because the soccer game was about to end anyway. However if I were a Cane or Tiger fan I would have been throwing things at the TV Another question I have for ESPN/DISNEY is why was Northwestern - Minnesota on ESPN while Miami - Clemson on ESPN2?

Thank you KG---and an even better question--when you get your own "network" as a league--have approximately 5 channels to show games during a Saturday--why do only show 1 game on your network--with conference play starting?? ESPN sucks--but yesterday took it to an entirely different level.

I'm with RDF on this one. Showing any soccer instead of major college football is BS ... by that, I mean over here! Obviously, those in Europe will think differently, but that only proves my point. Secondly, I don't follow soccer like many of you, but this wasn't some really big soccer game anyway was it? It wasn't World Cup ... it wasn't the playoffs ... it wasn't for any specific championship was it? If so, then I apologize, but like I said, I don't follow random soccer.
It kind of reminds me of when USA Network insisted on preempting the #1 show on cable television from its primetime spot to midnight, so that they could show the ...
...
...
Dog Show! I care not that it is the "Westminster something or other!" The explanation that it was the "Super Bowl" of dog shows fell on deaf ears.
Ironically, Vince McMahon pulled the show from USA when the contract ran up and signed with Spike for a few years. Then USA came crawling back to him with their tails between their legs, and promised not to preempt the show again.

I think you underestimate the ratings that the Westminster dog show generates.
Look, I love college football too. Yes, more than soccer, for the most part. But ESPN is always going to show the end of a sporting event if it means missing the beginning/first few minutes of the next sporting event. It doesn't matter what the sport is or how popular one sport is over another. They're just going to do it.
I don't think anyone anticipated a flood in the visitor's locker room that day. Had that not happened, there wouldn't have been anything wrong with ESPN's scheduling, as the soccer match would have ended in time for the opening kickoff.
For TV people "End of a Game" > "Beginning of a Game."
In virtually every case.
