I agree take him if he pops. I was just sayin there are others at his spot with similar size. A true 5 next to him would be quite formidable.

Bigger guys who can bang the boards on off/def and can take up space like a Dajuan Blair or Jeff Adrien are much more valuable than 6'10-6'11 guys who want to float the perimeter like a Duane Spencer. I say get him if possible

Upshaw or Mborga aren't floaters. Upshaw can hit the 15 footer, but @ 7', 250, he is far from a floater. He's a skilled big with unlimited potential. Def not a floater.

I read that Meeks was at Midnight Madness last night. Any news on whether he got an offer?

Yes he received an offer from reports. Looks like another UNC v. Georgetown Battle. I would press hard early for him.

Are you sure we offered, because none of the trio of rivals, espn, scout, say we have.

Are you sure we offered, because none of the trio of rivals, espn, scout, say we have. If by that you mean in the almost-never-updated-after-creation profiles, there's really no point in using those as a reference. If you mean there's no article that mentions it after exhaustive reading, then that's different.

I hope so. Lock down a '13 recruit and chips start to fall.

Kennedy is playing in the Nike Hoops Festival @ Dematha on Saturday at 3:45. West Charlotte will be playing Paul VI.
I'm sure the staff will be watching once the Howard game is over, and hopefully he gets time to step on campus again.

If I didn't live in LA I'd be there. Hoping some of you can get out there for a fun day of hoops and show him some love.

Mouph is slightly taller and more mechanical. Improving that though. Meeks is more fluid and has a much better offensive game.

Meeks gets a lot of Sean May comparisons--(former UNC player/NBA player for those who don't remember/know).

Kennedy didn't have much of a game yesterday against Paul VI (JT III in the house for it, schlepping out for it and the Oak Hill/Smith-Rivera game) -- 5 points, 3 boards in 22 minutes that included being benched down the stretch because he just wasn't getting it done (per a close relative of the West Charlotte coach I happened to chat with after the game). According to the linked article below (interesting read on yesterday's action generally) he had a sore ankle, so maybe that explains part of it, but to my eye KM played way too much like his last name: lots of baby fat, easily pushed around and didn't show much of a motor or desire to bang. On the plus side, had a nice low post drop step, soft hands and looked decent formwise on a few mid-range jumpers (all of which missed as I recall), but for a kid with his length and heft just didn't use either real well. The same relative went off some on how they've been trying to instill in KM that he has to get in shape/hit the weights and show up to play every game, esp. in a high profile event like this with comparable talent/size against him -- which made the performance esp. galling. All that said, the attributes he lacks right now can be acquired whereas the ones he has are much harder to develop (hands, agility) so definitely worth keeping our hand in -- but as of right now and based on this performance, DeMatha's Beejay Anya is light years ahead of him . . . www.maxpreps.com/news/Qb6JkSO7EeG-rAAmVebEWg/national-high-school-hoops-festival-standouts.htm

Definitely wasn't the best game for Meeks, and there was definitely more bad than good. On the plus side, he knows how to create space on the blocks and is an excellent passer out of the post and anticipates where he's going with the ball before he even gets it. You can tell he's worked on that part of the game. Also scored the first points of the game for West Charlotte as he banked in a three-pointer that he didn't even hesitate on taking. Also encouraged his teammates throughout and never seemed to get frustrated despite being in early foul trouble.
On the bad side, he has a soft physique and isn't as strong as he would seem just by looking at him because of his size. He's a solid 6'7", 260 now, but definitely needs to trim down. He's not an active rebounder as Paul VI's Coleman Johnson and beast freshman Marcus Derrickson - who the staff should be on right now, kid will be a good one - continually outworked him for rebounds on both ends. Didn't show good hands as he continually bobbled away what should have been easy rebounds and passes near the basket. Missed a few bunnies near the basket that woud have been dunks by a more physical, athletic big like DaJuan Coleman, or even Bee-Jay Anya.
All in all, not the best impression but I've seen him play better. A lot to work on, but he does things now that bode well for the future.
Brennan, Hunter and JTIII were all in attendance although it seemed like Hunter was more interested in talking to David Cox than anything else.
