Didn't register or log-in to read the rest of the thread, but based on the first 5 posts which you can see without doing so, I don't get what's interesting about it. It sounds like people with no knowledge of the program trying to speculate. There is NO chance that Markel starts for the Hoyas this year, unless 2 out of 3 of the Trifecta of Wright, Freeman, Clark are injured. It might even take all 3 being injured for him to start. That is literally the only way. Was there more to the thread later on or what made it interesting?

Well its interesting simply in the fact that someone claims that this sentiment seems to be "going around". He could have easily gotten a HoyaTalk account and posted the same thing here. Im sure that would have been interesting enough for you though...

Anyone who thinks we will miss Monroe on defense should watch the tape of that !@ Ohio !@ game. The plays that stands out most- and makes my stomach turn (still) was when one of the slow, sorry Ohio guards drove the lane and Monroe had a great angle to block the heck out of his shot- but backed off, because that could have been a third foul. Wow Greg, what would have happened if you had picked up that third foul? Something worse than getting embarrassed by Slowhio in the first round?
I don't mean to call out Greg, but simply to give the lie to the notion that the Hoyas will really miss his "defensive presence." That is simply false. The guys on the current team need to commit to playing hard and smart defense on every possession, and on taking defense personally (i.e., "This sorry fool from Ohio isn't going to score on ME").

Hope you aren't referring to DJ Cooper or Armon Bassett because they ate our "vaunted" backcourt's lunch up and spit it in their faces. BTW--it's sorry for Monroe but not on the perimeter guys for having a guard just drive the lane on them? Oh I know, they were "tired"----sure. Thank goodness their arms aren't tired from shooting or playing on other end. Nobody played good defense in a game you give up 97 points. Monroe wasnt/isn't/never will be type of big who is an intimidating shot blocker--hell Henry is best shot blocking big on team--or was now I believe it's Abraham--but he's seen as a "project" so that means limited role for him no matter what results are at Thompson University (insert pic of ugly ass T-Mobile throw in hat that Tubby Thompson likes to wear at events).

The buzz series is actually an Insider series, this was just the free piece to it. Here's the GU Insider piece for those interested. Commentary from Bilas and Lunardi as well: tinyurl.com/355p7k9From Lunardi: "What does it tell you that the Hoyas were the ninth-most efficient offensive team in the country last year, but Monroe was only the fifth-most efficient player on the team? It tells me that scoring isn't going to be a problem for the Monroe-less Hoyas. If his rebounding and defensive presence can be approximated by others, Georgetown could be even better in 2011 than in 2010." Not necessarily. I'm sure having Monroe on the floor helped everyone else's efficiency.

The Darrel Owens - Bowen comparisons is one of the best basketball comparisons that I've ever heard. If he can be Owens man would I be happy.

Isn't Bowen more of a slasher at the same stage than DJ? Last year's version of Hollis Thompson was not too much different than DJ IMO, albeit not as precise if you compare DJ in his last year to Hollis as a frosh.

DJ was a fave of mine but he never lived up to his immense potential because all he did was shoot from a distance. Bowen from all reports is more aggressive than DJ and is also more likely to drive to the hole. I don't get the comparison by III.
