I think the Cardinals got worse at the deadline. I don't think Jay is all that for real and Westbrook ain't much. It wasn't much of a haul for Ludwick. Westbrook may not be great, but he's still a clear upgrade over Suppan and Hawksworth, who both stink. As for Jay, time will tell. It's definitely a gamble, but when you consider that the Cardinals had been doing ok with Ludwick on the DL and that they really needed a starting pitcher, I think it's hard to argue that their roster isn't better today than it was last week. Disagree with RDF about the Bosox. They just have too many ongoing injuries this year to challenge the Rays or the Yankees. I think it's impressive that they've performed as well as they have this year under the circumstances.

Yankees don't have any easy outs? I'll disagree--if you watch their games--they have several easy outs---Granderson--who is awful, Jeter's sucked, Teixeira is an out if you just throw him soft stuff, Berkman is overweight and can't hit an inside fastball, and the approach by team is to strictly play for the HR--no base running from anyone aside from Gardner, and no hit/run's--everything is station to station.
Cashman has been horrendous in making moves this offseason/in-season.
Curtis Granderson being benched in 6th inning due to a LHP being brought in--is embarrassing. That shouldn't be who you trade for as your starting CF.
Berkman, Kearns, and Wood are garbage trying to cover up smell of feces.

Glancing back at assorted comments, I can only wonder how many of us would now claim that we were "just kidding." This is a very interesting season.
