Good luck to Vernon! We'll (he'll) never know what could have been if he was patient, listened and stayed. That hook started at GU.

Yeah, good point pr. I especially liked the way that he said that he didn't listen at all as a freshman and that then as a sophomore, he was learning to learn, but as you say, patience wasn't his strength and he wanted to play. But he did specifically mention that he should have been learning from Roy and Jeff. But again, I parallel him with Rivers. Rivers seemingly "blamed" GU for running the offense they did, and not giving him the chances to shine. Vern blamed himself for being a bit stubborn and then impatient. And that is something I think we can all agree on.

Sounds like Big Vern has really matured mentally and physically and has a healthy attitude in reflecting on what didn't go right on the Hilltop. Good luck to him.

3-13 from the stripe? Hack-a-Mack is back!
The Rivers/Macklin transfers were always odd to me. Rivers's departure kind of made sense, with the crowded backcourt, but he's badmouthed the program so much that I refuse to be understanding and wish the kid well. Macklin would have almost certainly seen increased playing time following Roy's graduation, but as far as we know has not badmouthed the program, so it's easier to wish him well.

Yeah, interesting point CT. The thing that always struck me as odd with Rivers' comments, concerned the way that he didn't fit into the offense. Well, I'm no John Wooden, but I still think that it is pretty obvious what the Hoyas base offense is. Why that would be some sort of shock is odd. As for Vern, I think it was yet another case of BMOC becomes just another "big" guy. No matter where you are going -- be it Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, Georgetown etc... -- I think those big time Parade All American types, still "know" they are good enough for "immediate" playing time. That's just a hunch, but from what Vern said in this article, that would kind of fit. Ironically, I wonder if actually he was additionally motivated by a style of play that he might find more fitting to his style -- rightly or wrongly. Just a hunch ... but in any case, the manner in which he handled it is certainly something we can all appreciate.
On Edit: yes, Vern is still a bit lacking at the charity stripe ... ok .. a lot lacking at the stripe.

I'm still waiting to find what offense Rivers fits into--since he's never worked on his game from his HS sophomore season. What a pompous "richard"head.
Macklin--he's same player he was at Georgetown--they developed his post offensive game and he does same things--would've been good as a Hoya--but it's over--good luck to him, and on to bigger/better/more important things-like supporting guys who are wearing the uniform.
