In the disturbingly early to be discussing his recruitment category: 6'9 center from New England www.bostonherald.com/blogs/sports/high_school/index.php/2010/04/20/nerlens-noel-update/The recruitment of Everett sophomore center/forward Nerlens Noel took a step forward last Friday as Georgetown assistant coach Mike Brennan visited Noel and Everett boys basketball coach John DiBiaso.
“I think the visit went very well,” said DiBiaso. “I think a school like Georgetown would be a great place for Nerlens. (Brennan) spoke about the academics and the school has a very good reputation for graduating its athletes. Even the guys who have left school go back to get their degree.”Pretty awesome that academically inclined high school ballers might be getting this message too.

It's true too. Jeff is finishing his degree this summer.

A snippet from Fox Sports saying that the Hoyas are at the top of Noel's list: "Then, you’ve got the 6-foot-10, 200-pound Nerlens, the next big thing to come out of Papile’s BABC program. Nerlens will head to Tilton (N.H.) in the fall and move into the Class of 2013.
Nerlens, 15, is a long and active big man out of Everett High (Mass.) who plays hard on both ends of the court. He said he already has offers from Syracuse and Florida and likes Pittsburgh and Providence, but he admitted Georgetown is at the top of his list due to the success of the Hoyas' former big man, Greg Monroe."msn.foxsports.com/collegebasketball/story/College-Basketball-recruiting-notebook-071010Listed at 6'10'' now...

Good for him. He will not be a very young 2012. We seem to be getting kids who are younger than their classmates. Greg, Henry, and Roy (I think) come to mind.

From ESPN.com at Peach Jam:
"Nerlens Noel (Everett, Mass./Everett) 2013, C, 6-10, 205 pounds | Team: BABC Noel, who is reclassifying to the 2013 class, has a chance to be special. He is a shot-blocking specialist with outstanding length and timing that the state of Massachusetts hasn't seen since a young Patrick Ewing. In his two games Monday, he blocked 16 shots and altered countless others. His defensive presence in the paint was a major factor in holding opponents to below a 40 percent field goal shooting in his team's two victories. He is raw offensively but is developing a back-to-the-basket game. Noel is an excellent rebounder that gets to balls outside his area and is relentless on the offensive glass. An elite player in the 2013 class, Noel will have the big programs fighting over him for the next three years."

Can you imagine the 1-2-3 punch of Nerlens Noel, Rakeem Christmas and Moses Abraham as a front court during a holiday tournament in 2013? Dick Vitale would probably have a cerebral hemorrhage trying to hold back all the puns...

I'm sure they could all get on the court together during garbage time...
At home games that year the students could all wear santa hats.

From UNC Scout article:
"Noel said he’s considering a long list of schools including Syracuse, Providence, Pitt, Boston College, Florida and UConn and has received scholarship offers from Georgetown, Providence, Miami, UCLA and Florida."
Also, Noel apparently outplayed Rakeem Christmas head-to-head:
"Noel and BABC were eliminated from the Peach Jam Wednesday night with a 70-63 loss to Team Final in overtime. But in his final game of the tournament Noel had 13 points, eight rebounds and three blocks against five-star center Rakeem Christmas. Christmas had nine points on 4-for-4 shooting but had to sit part of the first half after picking up fouls on Noel."

Providence Scout site has the following quote from Noel, when asked to name his favorite schools:
“'Not a big favorite, but right now I like Georgetown, Florida, and Providence', Noel said of who his leaders are."

Interesting info from hoopscoop:
6'10 Soph Nerlens Noel from Everett (H.S.) MA will be their #1-ranked player nationally in the sophomore class next time we update our national rankings. Noel already is attracting interest from schools like Syracuse, Providence, Pittsburgh, Georgetown, Boston College, Florida, Connecticut, Miami-FL, and UCLA. But Leo Papile, who runs the B.A.B.C. club team program and is his AAU coach, says they're wasting their time. Noel won't even begin to think schools until July 1, 2011 and there is a very good chance that he will follow in the footsteps of Jeremy Tyler, whereby he forgoes his senior year of high school and goes overseas to play

Yeah, cause that worked out awesome for Tyler. I feel like the international game is more catered towards PGs and SFs? True or False?

Another AAU coach with an agenda. No surprise. Meanwhile, Nerlens keeps talking about colleges. Hmmm. (And yes, I'm agreeing with MCI, not saying Noel isn't genuine.

I assume that the reason a kid would head to Europe after their junior year of HS is so that they are draft-eligible after one year, when they would have otherwise considering their one-and-done school. The purpose, then, would be to get to the League a year earlier than they would have been able to do had they stayed in the States.
If that is the case with this guy, why would he be reclassifying? If he graduates in 2012 and took his one-and-done year, he would be in the League the same year.
Something is not adding up.

ESPN Article from Orlando:
"Standout Players
Nerlens Noel (Everett, Mass./New Hampshire Tilton School) 2013 PF, 6-10 | AAU team: BABC Noel has put on a defensive clinic all week to lead his team to the U-16 finals. A long and athletic player with incredible instincts for blocking shots, Noel has terrific mobility and agility for a player his size and phenomenal timing. Undoubtedly the best pure shot blocker in Orlando, Noel's defense is still far ahead of his offense. Still, he shows flashes on the offensive end as well, scoring with both hands from inside six feet, making quick spin moves, and passing out of the post."
