Rand Paul went on Maddow's show because that is the show where he announced his candidacy. And no, I don't think he went on the show thinking he'd be asked about 50 year old established law that no one -- no, not even Rand Paul -- questions the legitimacy of.
Probably naive on his part, sure, and I don't think he should have done it, but I'm pretty sure that's the reason he did it.

Probably naive on his part, sure, and I don't think he should have done it, but I'm pretty sure that's the reason he did it. Except that Rachel asked him about the law because of his recent comments about it. She didn't ask him out of the blue for no reason whatsoever. And even though you keep insisting he doesn't question it's legitimacy, he could not bring himself to give that very easy answer. He kept talking all around his point that it is a good law for Governmental entities, but in his mind it should not apply to private businesses. You can deny, claim it was a trap, or make up whatever other excuses you choose to, but that won't change what he said or alter his views. I find those views completely and totally unacceptable.

You're in luck then. There's a pretty good chance that you'll have a nice creepy boogeyman for the next six years who you can use to tell horror stories about lunch counters to children.

Not to mention Anthony Weiner.
When you can get Weiner to take a break from tilting at windmills against Glenn Beck in order to criticize you, you might want to consider a different strategy.

Paul, like his father, is for radically limiting the reach of government. I will watch him carefully if he becomes a Senator, because despite partisan hack pseudo journalists' attempts to "trap" him, most of his ideas are ones I can get behind. And if he can muster support from youth with his "disentanglement" bent ("no war!" to the hippie crowd) and his stance on drug legalization, he and others like him will be a force to reckon with, despite the fact that some people will call him crazy for being a strict constitutionalist/"power to the people, not the federal government" type. Especially if this current administration keeps accelerating the Bush executive branch power grab and federal bloat strategy.

The question is whether he can walk the walk instead of just talking the talk. There's a very long list of politicians on both sides of the aisle who are fiscal conservatives in the campaign and big spenders once they're in office.
