Shouldn't we just pin this topic to the top of the board, so it can easily be updated every time a new issue arises?

For the sake of accuracy, though, the title should be " DID IT AGAIN: All as usual for UCONNvicts recruiting."

Huh. You'd think $13M could go a long way toward paying those fees.
Guess not.

One of the violations announced was "A failure by the head men's basketball coach to promote an atmosphere of compliance in the men's basketball program and a failure to adequately monitor the program to ensure compliance with NCAA legislation regarding telephone calls, text messages and benefits provided by a representative of the institution's athletic interests"
The NCAA needs to grow a pair and use this violation to take down Calhoun and Calapari. If you can't know that this illegal stuff is going on with people you work with everyday, you're gone.

starting on page 7 is the real juicy stuff. A lot of names and info is redacted, but you can tell that 1) they were making illegal phone calls to multiple student athletes not just the miles kid that started this whole investigation. 2) that every single member of the coaching staff including calhoun placed at least 1 impermissable call. And the person making the most impermissable calls wasn't even allowed to be making calls in the first place. 3) The provided Miles with a whole lot of stuff and the NCAA states that UCONN knew or at least should have known about it. 4) one of the assitants gave a recruit improper benefits and there's a lot redacted in there, so it could be a lot. Based on the follow up questions it sounds lik the coach may have paid for him to take the SAT or something to that extent. 5) the 2 assitants who "resigned" blatently lied to the NCAA durign the investigation. 6) The Uconn staff was giving out tickets to highschool coaches to away games. Calhoun himself is named as having given away tickets. 7) the report states calhoun knew about certain impermissable calls and the realtionship between miles and the agent.
At the very least Uconn's losing a scholarship and havin restrictions placed on their phone calls and days out recruiting. They should get more than that with the giving our of tickets and giving improper benefits to a prospective student athlete.

Is there a relatively apt analog? Kelvin Sampson's situation at Oklahoma? Or does this go beyond that?

Sampson just had illegal phone calls although i think he had a greater number, but in my mind this goes well beyond that. It looks to me that the uconn staff knew mils was haivng illegal contact with an agent, helped get him qualified for school and payed for his SAT, gave away tickets illegally and then lied about it in addition to making a illegal phone calls.

I feel a little "illness" coming on for Jimmy C---and this time I don't think he'll be in his usual rush to conduct 100 interviews after he says he's taken ill.

look if the ncaa isnt going to enforce the rules then its hard to complain when some programs dont follow them
im not saying that i want georgetown to break the rules. i dont. but its not like their is a huge incentive to follow the rules for the kind of guy that wants to win at all costs
