I'm not going to bore you with the entire article, but the gist of it is that he wants "to take the opportunity to see what's out there for me. I don't even like the term decommitment because that implies something negative and that's not the case ..."
But there's one comment in particular that I thought some of you might be interested in:
"Rivers said Duke, Florida and North Carolina all appeal to him because of style of play. 'They give their guards freedom and let them make plays,' Rivers said. 'It's not like a Princeton-style system.'"

The sides of the McDonough backboards will be happy to know he's not interested in GU....

I am not sure why anyone would want this guy. He appears to be every bit of the punk that his brother has turned out to be given his post-transfer potshots at the program and our approach.

Yeah, I honestly don't know much more than any of you. I haven't heard any real negative comments, but that wording certainly suggests that there is a carry over effect from the Jeremiah incidents. In fariness to him, all of the other comments were very cordial. He said stuff like he was still very interested in Florida and may very well end up has a Gator. As I mentioned, he said that he really didn't like the word decommit, but that basically he wants to enjoy the entire recruiting process. He did say that he still wants to sign in the early period in November so the recruiting process doesn't interfere with his senior season. We'll have to see, but I did find that comment about the Princeton-syule offense to be curious.

The Rivers family... I think it is pretty clear you should not take them at their word.
I wonder how Doc feels about all this?

Well, Doc seems to be raising spoiled brats with a serious sense of entitlement. I will be shocked if he doesn't end up at Duke -- Coach K is not one to shy away from stealing recruits and now he has another title in his arsenal.

I did find another comment from a different paper and Rivers said that he still "expects" to play for Florida and specifically mentioned playing with Patric Young (Florida All-American coming in this year) and Brad Beal (a top recrruit committed to Florida in Rivers' class).

I hope he ends up at Florida, only because I would like to see him stand by his word. But I'm not holding my breath.

Like a lot of teens, sounds like Austin listens to his big brother much more than his dad.

Austin is a great offensive player---but a prima donna as a kid. Interesting he's looking at programs where you SHARE THE BALL/SPOTLIGHT--because that's not his M.O.

It's pretty obvious these Rivers kids have "commitment" issues. I wonder if they've been jilted by girlfriends or something.

It's pretty obvious these Rivers kids have "commitment" issues. I wonder if they've been jilted by girlfriends or something. In fairness (and I don't think I say this only because of my orange and blue goggles ...), I don't think you can lump Austin in with Jeremiah -- at least, not yet. Verbal commitments aren't worth the paper they are written on for a reason. For a kid his age and in his demand to decide to rethink things is entirely reasonable. Do I want him to be a Gator? Of course. Will I be disappointed if he goes elsewhere? Of course. But I don't think that his situation parallels his older brother's, who actually signed with prestigious program -- in both athletics and academics -- but then decided that the system they ran wasn't for him. Um, what part of the precision execution based, so-called Princeton offense surprised you? Furthermore, to then take a backstab at JTIII and the Hoyas is just uncalled for. Yes, I know that Austin was quoted as looking at schools that let the guards create plays rather than running a "Princeton style" offense. And yes, maybe there was another dig there, but I'm not ready to write the kid off just for that. Still, I do see your point, and when you grow up in the limelight, as Doc Rivers kids obviously would, then there is certainly a lot of potential pitfalls, that us poor folks dont' have to worry about. Lastly, as for Austin, don't forget that his sister, Callie I think, plays for the Gator volleyball team.

He didn't raise them with as much bball sense - he said after Jeremiah transferred that he didn't agree with his son's decision: www.insidethehall.com/2008/05/10/washington-times-jeremiah-rivers-to-indiana/

I'd take our Austin over this Austin anyday of the week.

I'd take our Austin over this Austin anyday of the week. I hear that Freeman might be thinking about transferring to Florida ... just kidding. I like that kid too. If'n the the Gators get their Austin, I can only hope that he is as talented and effective as the Hoya version.

That's probably the nicest thing you have ever said about Florida. Are you getting soft in your old age? No numb nuts---if you pay attention, I've never had an issue with Florida's basketball program--other then fact that Gator fanbase has no interest about it--it doesn't even matter to them--and it's a shame too. I've always defended Noah here too--think he's a very good player and would've liked him to be a Hoya. Austin Rivers is a team killer-it has been/is/will be about HIM. That doesn't win much.
