I don't think he misled or lied or anything like that. Why is everything a giant conspiracy theory?
Here's what I think happened. AF being in the hospital presented an opportunity to say "That's how sick this team is, one's in the hospital" and we took that opportunity to tell Bilas that we were in such bad shape. There's no conspiracy theory and I'm sure we might have had the sniffles (or yes, even a virus and I'm sure it's bad, we've all had them, and we've even lived our older, weaker lives through them quite normally). But we didn't have the black plague like it sounded on TV because Free was in the hospital for multiple days. He was in the hospital because he was sick AND had diabetes. In short, we might have been sick but it wasn't going to send the whole team to the ER, only those who are also diabetic.
Now without Free we lose anyway but a week after we find out Chris was "sick" for Rutgers we had this episode. I just think we should keep our stomach trouble out of the media because we've looked tired and weak for a month and it starts to sound like Marquette's flu.
Ok got it. I just don't see it as JTIII "taking an opportunity" to do anything. Bilas asked how's the team's health and JTIII responded, truthfully, that it wasn't good. But that was the end of it. No excuses.
Fine but let's agree that next week in New York the correct answer to any inquiry about the health of the Hoyas regardless of whether they all have hangnails or ebola is "We're ready to EditedING go!"
Yes, yes everyone could be sick too and blah, blah, blah and we don't know and we're not there in practice. I get it. It's not necessarily false but it's pretty suspicious.
We can't speculate on pretty much anything, and Giga can speculate on whether the coach lied, with ABSOLUTELY no facts whatsoever? (and as people that know better than me have documented, the flu likely led to the discovery of Austin's illness, so there's no reason others couldn't have been sick as well)

Lock 'er down.
HE DIDN'T LIE.
But we are very happy to truthfully and honestly share that we are all in a weakened condition with the whole world. Now if they think it might be even worse than it is because of further information that one is in the hospital, well that's fine.
We could say things like "Good, it looks like Free got the worst of it" or "Doing alright, it's certainly nothing that will stop us from trying our hardest to get this game."
Or we could say "A lot of the guys are sick." I'm not crazy about a team that's lost 3 or 4 and looked bad out of the gate doing that but maybe it's a better motivating tactic than I realize.
Um, when you say that it's BS, as you did in the first post, that's tantamount to calling it a lie. Or the phrase "It's not necessarily false but it's pretty suspicious ." When you say that's it's not necessarily false, you've left it open to the possibility that it's false.
I think you might want to just take it back and move on.
GIGA, with all due respect let this one go. I think you jumped to a wrong conclusion on this one and IMO its very insulting to the head coach and to even Bilas. There are other legitimate criticisms to lash on to.

I missed the discussion on the game but I think we almost won that game. With a healthy austin I think we win that game. We had WV until they switched to the 1-3-1.
I just don't get the point. I mean, Giga, you're one of the good guys, right? One of the big fans? I could see if JTIII and the players were making excuses and throwing out lame quotes, etc. But they haven't. No one has. I am really trying to control my posting here, since I don't want to get into a P'ing contest and start the downward spiral of name-calling etc. but, man oh man, this is just lame. You felt the need to start a new thread on this? Tilt at windmills much?
Seriously, people, this is an awful expression and needs to be put down.
"The ball should move, bodies should move. You talk about being an undisciplined, unselfish group. That's what you do. If the ball's sticking, great defensive teams are going to load up. If you don't move the ball and [be] unselfish, it's gonna be long nights, so you better learn to move the ball, share, and play with a sense of urgency on every possession. Our teams will always be unselfish, our teams will always be physical, and our teams will always do our best to defend."
Dont' think Bilas made it up at all--I know I've come down with the bug since watching that USF loss--and it hasn't left. It's called "Mediocrititus"--where I'm feeling good after watching one game, and feel like death the next game due to insufficient/awful play.
The team being under the weather for both Notre Dame and WVU simply shows how one must try to play every game as hard as possible because one never knows if there will be a point of the season in which you're not at full strength. That's a critism directed at the coach and players for lackluster performances against USF and Rutgers. Wouldn't they love to have those games back? Except for Chris at Rutgers the team was in good health back then and therefore more in control over their fate on the court. Unlike this past week.
Also since you can't know when a player may go down because of injuries, grades, personal issues or illnesses its best that one uses more depth to get other players ready just in case they are needed down the road. That's a criticism directed towards the coach and that's why depth is important. Its important because of the possibility of what could happen to the guys you rely heavily on.
