A few thoughts:
1) I hope Austin recovers quickly. I hope it is a simple stomach bug and nothing more.
2) At least we will have a chance to gameplan a bit for his absence. Defense should be better than Saturday and there will be no shock to the players that he is not suiting up. Hopefully they play this as a challenge with nothing to lose like mentality.
3) NCAA committee will definitely give us the benefit of the doubt for these last two games, they take this stuff into account and Austin's our leading scorer in BE play by a lot. However, any one can see the team is struggling and we are definitely a 5-7 seed, with or without a Cincy win.

God, the more I think about this, the more depressed I get.
Is this our only Big Monday appearance this season? Great timing - the team is swooning, our best player is sick, and the whole country will get a chance to see us "in action"

I don't know for sure, but I don't think the committee considers Austin's illness at all. He played over half the game against ND and a road loss to WVU won't need to be explained since WVU is the favorite with or without Austin. A 5 seed means we play someone not that good in the first round and then a 4-seed in the second round. That's fine if we can get it. I just fear slipping to an 8 seed and then we're taking on Kansas or Kentucky in round 2 in some venue near their fan base.

Get well soon, Austin! Anyone know where I can mail him a card? Would a Hallmark card be an NCAA violation? Serious question, not joking. a Calipari Hallmark card or a regular Hallmark card? As long as it's not full of cash and steroids to get him back for tonight i think it's ok ;D

The way thsi seaosn has gone, we have the same chance of beating the opposing 1st round team as the second round #1 seeded team!

At the very least we will learn alot about this team tonight win or lose. If they can't come out with intensity and focus and effort when they are faced with this type of adversity, in a venomous, hostile environment, then we can't expect to see it the rest of the way. O the other hand, if we see the heart and the desire many of us feel has been lacking, hopefully they can remember that feeling the rest of the way.

Quite honestly, I think this could be a slight blessing in disguise for following reasons: 1) Even with a fully healthy Freeman (let alone a 75% Freeman, which after the way he looked on Saturday was likely the best-case scenario), coming out of Morgantown with a road win against WVU would have been tough. Clearly Freeman is a "gamer", seeing as he didn't really let on to coaching staff until right before ND game, and he likely would have tried to go again even if he was in not much better shape. 2) Advanced notice forces III to lean on bench by necessity eat up Free's minutes. Perhaps you catch lightning in a bottle with a big step-up performance from Hollis, Jerelle, Vee and/or Henry. Even if you don't, you gain good game experience in a hostile BE road environment for the bench. 4) Allows Austin time to focus on recuperating and on the mend before Saturday's game vs. Cincy (which will be that much more important if we don't win tonight). Having had a nasty GI virus a couple of years ago (if in fact that's what it is), he may need all that time just to start to rehydrate and feel more like himself. {knock wood}) These were the first things I thought (besides 'damn we probably barely have a chance today). It would be great to get Vee some extra minutes because of the potential he's flashed and force Hollis to take more of a lead too. At this point we really don't have a shot at a double bye and cincy is the team who we should beat along with whoever we play in the first round of the BET. I'd rather be healthy and on a little bit of a roll if that's what resting Austin means.

We know Hollis is going to get a lot of the time. Will be interesting to see who else picks it up and what works.

God, the more I think about this, the more depressed I get. Is this our only Big Monday appearance this season? Great timing - the team is swooning, our best player is sick, and the whole country will get a chance to see us "in action" Unfortunately, this is our second Big Monday appearance .. the first one being the blowout we suffered at Syracuse after running out to a fourteen point lead. Let's hope we play a lot harder and stay in this thing tonight so there's no lasting negative impressions from the Monday prime time audience

Vee needs to take care of the ball, make some strong cuts, and keep the defense honest. Jason and Hollis need to knock down the typical "Freeman shots."

So now our Hoyas are effectively playing with house money. Nobody expects them to win with the leading scoring out. Tell Vee that Huggins hates everything about the State of Kentucky. Tell Hollis that nobody thinks he can score 20 points against a Big East opponent. Tell Chris Wright that this is he game to score +30. Greg doesn't seem to get excited so let Greg be Greg and dish another 12 assists to the rest of the crew. The pressure is off. Now they can win.

Here's hoping Austin gets well soon. Here's hoping this team grows some testicular fortidude today and plays like the team that dropped 103 on Nova or the team that man handled the ACC's best!

There has been no official word on what is actually wrong with Freeman, so to trivialize his illness and criticise him without any actual knowledge is way out of bounds.

hoboken, you just demonstrated your idiocy with your criticism of freeman, on a number of levels. I'd suggest you never post again. Tks.
