Any irony in someone posting in a thread about why someone is posting in that thread?

Just curious why he seems to be the only person really prolonging this thread. Why do you think that? He didn't start the thread, and of the numerous times it's been resurrected after weeks/months of inactivity, he's resurrected it once.

Have we ever been kind to questioning motives regarding posting? KCHoya, I have no idea how you managed to make yourself the victim here, but bravo, sir.

You're allowed to question whatever you want. At the same time, if you say The Ambassador is "the only person really prolonging this thread", I'm also allowed to call you out on it if it's not actually the case...

Back to the topic - does anyone actually think this will pass? My prediction:
Collins finds some insincere procedural based objection out of the McCain playbook, Lieberman defends Collins and blames Reid and Obama, it gets ripped out of the defense bill, and Levin takes a lot of unwarranted crap for stripping it out after it's obvious it failed

TC - that seems to be what we're in for. Collins released her hostage demands last night - and she wants amendments in favor of Republicians - something like 10 amendments to 5 for the Democrats.
Murkowski is in favor of repeal of DADT, but only if the debate is long enough. Unknown how much time she needs.
Given the last 4 years and unprecedented filibustering, it would be naive to think they'll stop today.

I'm surprised Brown voted no. With Manchin and Murkowski as cover and it failing anyway, seems like that would have been the smarter vote for him especially after he came out in favor of it.

As I mentioned before, if you don't find the topic interesting - don't post. ed- I only questioned kchoya's motives for posting his question to show how ridiculous it is to do that. I don't really need to know kchoya's motives or Ambassadors motives for posting in the thread because neither matter. Ambassador should not be questioned for posting in a relevant thread on a political message board. kchoya - sorry if I picked two issues that you haven't posted on, but I'm sure you get the idea. After all, you can spell "militaries" correctly - you must be pretty smart.

Looks like this is going to come up for a stand-alone vote after the tax deal, and it has the votes to pass (per Lieberman, who's always been a leader on this issue).

I haven't been following this too closely, but kudos to whoever's idea it was to bring this up as a stand-alone proposal.
Was it Harry Reid? If so, much as I hate him, I will say good for him (I will also say, "finally!" after Reid has tried to weasel it into other things as if people wouldn't notice somehow)
If this is a matter of principle for those in Congress who don't like it, they need to have the courage of their convictions. A stand-alone bill will allow (perhaps force) them to have that.
Just sayin'.
It's not a critical issue for me, but I understand why it is important to many.
Two questions: 1. Has the military report on this come out yet? If it hasn't, I can see this easily being blocked or otherwise defeated.
2. Per my question from a previous page, is it enough for Congress simply to strike down DADT? Don't they have to replace it with new military policy? But maybe that is in the bill being proposed.

Prediction : DADT fails because Reid schedules the vote after START or the omnibus and the 3 or 4 votes he needs use the limited amount of debate as an objection to vote against it, or the Republicans run out the clock on it.

Per Boz's questions, I think this just gives the power back to the DoD to decide the standards for who can join up, rather than a law on the books. Obama, Mullen, and Gates have to sign a certification that the change won't impact military readiness (which they will, as they were all for repeal) and then there's a 60 day waiting period for the change to go into effect. So by March, homosexuality will no longer be a military offense.

I'm amazed - that after screwing up bills as mundane as food safety and not being able to overcome obstruction on an issue that should be as non-controversial as health care for 9/11 responders that they were able to move forward on this. I feel bad for being so cynical about its chances.
Can someone explain to me why this didn't pass last week with the defense authorization bill but passed cloture today with three extra votes? I guess I don't get it.
Good job by Lieberman even though I trust him about as far as I can throw him.

Can someone explain to me why this didn't pass last week with the defense authorization bill but passed cloture today with three extra votes? I guess I don't get it. Because the GOP votes (Brown, Collins, and Murkowski originally were dependent on the tax and budget situations being resolved, and that hadn't happened yet. As far as I can tell, Kirk and Burr jumped on only after cloture had passed, and weren't being courted by anyone. Credit where it's due. He's always been a leader on this and did most of the work in getting the stand-alone bill passed. The person who didn't really wrap themselves in glory was McCain, who used to be supportive. I think conservatives back in the day were right: McCain doesn't have principles, he has enemies. So back when he lost the nomination to Bush, he was a maverick Republican. Now that he lost the election to Obama, he's as right as they come. It's really fascinating, his entire political philosophy boils down to bitterness to whomever (on either side) he feels wronged him.

Choose a side - everyone would respect YES or NO more than "Christmas Party!!!!!"
