I should clarify my post for some of you guys who take issue with my idea that Hollis has "arrived". I never said Hollis had finished progressing as a basketball player (quite to the contrary, he still has a long way to go). Just like scary good Austin this year hasn't reached the pinnacle of his basketball career (teams should be VERY scared for next year). Every player on our team is going to get better (hopefully). What I meant by starting this thread was that Hollis really looked like a legit college player against Nova and he was doing a lot of the little things that I hadn't seen him do in past games. Can he play better defense? Of course. Can he cut down on turnovers? Of course. Can he work on his ball handling? Of course (but those are things that every one on the team still needs to work on). But for me, as Hollis continues to progress this year (and in the future), the Nova game will be the "ah" moment for me when I thought things started to really click for Hollis.
Just giving the kid some love for his play. And he deserves it. Keep it up Hollis.

Several times during the nova game announcers refferred to Hollis' poor freethrow shooting. Funny thing is, by the end of the year he will be one of the most reliable free throw shooters on the team...up there with Wright and Freeman. Early in the season it was a case of nerves...but as the season progresses he's going to be automatic.

Kudos to Austin and Jason today but for me, today's game was about Hollis' arrival. Or maybe not.

Glad to disagree with you. I thought the team as a whole didn't play very well last night (but a win is a win, especially a road win), so I don't think Hollis' game last night was that bad. I thought he gave us solid minutes again. His defense obviously needs to keep improving (but as a team, our defense hasn't been great as of late).
He didn't shoot well but compare his stat line to Jason's from last night. Very similar.
I don't think you understand the premises of this thread. That said, I'm fine riding solo on the Hollis bandwagon.

My point was that you annointed Hollis as having "arrivewd" a little prematurely. He had a very nice game against Nova, and has certainly shown some flashes at times. But last night he was basically a non-entity, although he did grab a couple of nice boards. His defense was a liability, and his shooting was pretty poor, although Jason didn't shoot well either. I don't think we can count on Hollis yet as a solid 6th or 7th man, but hopefully he can continuew to improve over the next 3 weeks. I would love to see the bench act as a spark when we are having trouble, pick the starters up and inject some energy. At this point, at most they usually allow the starters to get some rest without making huge mistakes to change the momentum against us. I still think we need more if we are going to go far in the postseason; we will have a game or two where the starters struggle and we need that spark.

He showed some real improvement against Nova anda good grasp of wat we are doing at both ends. I guess my thought was that you were saying we can count on him off the bench consistently; I don't think so quite yet. That said, I feel he will be a huge contributor over the next 3 years.

Hollis a "non-entity" Sorry ...i think you're off on this. Hollis' bucket off the inbound was one of the bigger plays of the game. We were in a serious drought at the time down by 6 or 8 points in the 2nd half. He also went up high in trafiic to grab some very important defensive boards ....rebounds that the entire team was struggling to get. While he didn't do anything spectacular, I thought he made a solid contribution.
