I thought it would be fun to look back at those who we missed on and those who we got and may have wanted to miss on. My memory is foggy so the back & forth will be helpful & fun. I want to focus on just those who were really on our list vs. the hopefuls (this would include those that the board wanted but coaches may not have wanted):
Davis Nwankwo - chose Vandy (maybe during Esh years). Had a heart attack during practice and was unable to play again but stuck on at Vandy to graduate.
Duke Crews - Chose Tennessee. Was kicked out and eventually landed at Bowie State.
Eric Boateng - Chose Duke. Transferred to Az. St. Averaged about 2 a game and has graduated.
Chris Braswell - Chose GU. Went to Charlotte. Is averaging 10 & 9 and is a freshman.
Anthony McClain - Chose Cincy. Is averaging 1 & 2 and is a Junior.
Renaldo Woolridge - Chose Tenn. Is averaging 4 & 3 and is a Sophomore.
Josh Thornton - Transferred to Towson. Is averaging 12 & 2 as a senior.
Marc Egerson - Transferred to Delaware. Graduated last year averaging 15 & 10.
Octavius Spann - Transferred to Marshall. Graduated last year and averaged 2 & 2.
Vernon Macklin - Transferred to Florida. Is a junior and averaging 10 & 5.
Jeremiah Rivers - Transferred to Indiana. Is a junior averaging 6 & 5.
Dashonte Riley - Went to Cuse. Averaging 2 & 2 seeing time in half their games.
Michael Dunigan - Went to Oregon. Averaging 10 & 5 as a sophomore on a struggling Oregon squad.
2010 guys: Will Barton (Memphis), Roscoe Smith (UConn), Josh Hairston (Duke), Tyler Thorton (Duke), Terrence Jones (UW?), Jelan Kendrick (Memphis), Tony Mitchell (Missouri).
Please throw out names and I'll take a look. I am interested in keeping this up as I find it interesting that many of the misses at the time end up being not that big of a deal.

Maybe our "system" would have been the right fit for some of these guys and given them much better numbers.

I think the transfers/decommits that have hurt us the most (mostly thinking about last year) are the big men - Macklin, Braswell, Riley. However, that makes III's finding Vaughn - plus his eligiblity last year and his continued improvement this year - that much more special and important.

Braswell is a beast. I dont think we necessarily missed out on him though, just a matter of perhaps being the wrong academic fit for the young fella. Not sure we'd still have Bennimon on the roster had Braswell ended up being on the Hilltop so cant really complain for any angle how that turned on for Georgtown.

How close did we have to be for it to count?
Kris Joseph up at Syracuse. Scottie Reynolds, of course. Mouph Yarou. Andre Dawkins (though there are different stories on that one). Nolan Smith. Ryan Kelly. The older Plumlee. JR Inman. Wally Judge. Maurice Creek. Tristan Spurlock. Dante Taylor. Chris Singleton. Michael Dunigan. JJ Hickson. Donte Greene. Anthony Randolph. Davon Jefferson. Gus Gilchrist. Nigel Munson. Marques Johnson (it was between him and Rivers). Jawan Carter. Kyle Rowley. Rockwell Moody. Devan Bawinkel. Da'Sean Butler (Doh!). Greg Paulus. Andre Blatche. Sam Young. Danny Green. Alfred Aboya. Solomon Hill. D'Andre Bell. Vernon Goodridge.
Let me save you time: if you don't know the name, they didn't do much.

I forgot about Dunigan. He was mentioned a lot. Hickson (maybe). Wally Judge seemed to commit really early on to KSU. I guess it is up for debate but I'll add Dunigan to the thread.

Great list SFHoya. Thought i'd add a few names that i remember. John Riek (Ha!), Terrell Vinson (playing well at UMass), Damian Johnson (playing well at Minnesota) and of course Omar Wattad.

This reminds me of an old Hoya or Voice article from, I believe, the early 90s -- something along the lines "The Shunned vs. the Stunned" -- in which a fantasy game takes place between GU might-have-beens (Kenny Anderson, Danny Ferry, ...) and GU transfers (Anthony Jones, Anthony Tucker, David Edwards, ...).

Randoms:
1. I lost track during the Esh years. Before that I just read the papers and Eastern Basketball and went to the B'East Tourney.
III has brought me back. I rolled into HT in early '07 so pardon my lapses.
I never thought Ferry was for real for GU. I was sorry to see Edwards [Alabama?] and Jones go. They seemed to be nice kids. All of III'S recruits I've learned about here from you folks. Some have been very right; some, very wrong. My attitude is, once their here I hope it works out.
2. I'm glad to see that Egerson and Spann got their degrees. That's job one for their level of ability.
3. The strange trade of the sons of famous men with Indiana is interesting. It apparrently worked out for both.
4. Macklin would have been a big help this year. That was a loss. So it goes.
5. Maybe some kid from somewhere who wants to bust his fanny for a great program and a better education is reading this right now.
Admin, what am I permitted to say to this lad that doesn't violate NCAA rules on recruiting?

The Grants were/are at Dematha with one playing at Clemson now and the other a senior. Not sure we were ever in the equation on those two.

Can't remember if we were ever seriously after Devan Downey, but as I watched him dismantle UK, I thought I remembered his name showing up a few times.

Am I the only person who read SF's list and came away wondering if it was intentional that he juxtaposed a guy named Rockwell with a another guy named Bawinkel?

Mentioning Terrell Vinson at Umass makes me think of CJ Anderson, who went to Manhattan, tore it up, transferred to Xavier, I think, and disappeared.

Derek Payne. How many different years were the "Derek Payne coming to GU" rumors lighting up? 3? 4? That had to be some sort of record.

Derek Payne. How many different years were the "Derek Payne coming to GU" rumors lighting up? 3? 4? That had to be some sort of record. And who was Payne's wingman gain? That kid was a big time scorer and was also supposed to be headed to GU. Gtown could have had Butler of WVU but went after bigger fish. I do regret that one.

Admin, what am I permitted to say to this lad that doesn't violate NCAA rules on recruiting? I think David Edwards went to Texas A&M. Tony Bethel had a couple of OK years at NC State, nothing spectacular. Drew Hall -- College of Charleston? Brandon Bowman would have been on the list if Pops hadn't stepped in. From the old days -- Milton Bell (who actually was a highly regarded recruit, think he went to a school in Virginia), Anthony Tucker and Charles Harrison (Wake Forest), Grady Mateen (Ohio State), Demetrius Hunter (UNLV, I think), Shernard Long went to Georgia State and played very well there, and the redoubtable Harvey Thomas (did OK at Baylor before program imploded).

Brandon Bowman would have been on the list if Pops hadn't stepped in. He's not the only one. We would have been looking at Sead jumping center.
